When visiting a nation such as Oman, whether, on recreational or business travel, it is necessary to take a moment to plan what you will be taking with you. Given that the nation has a rich cultural history, a strongly religious society, as well as extreme weather, being prepared, is always key.

Even if you are a well-versed traveller, take the time to ensure that you are meeting the local customs and etiquettes!

Remember to pack for the weather

One of the most well-known aspects of Oman that many expect to deal with is the heat. With the temperatures reaching over 35 degrees during the summer months, being prepared may save you from heat exhaustion and discomfort.

Ensure that you pack in the following essentials. Carrying with you a large hat and a good pair of sunglasses will do wonders in reducing the harshness of the sun when outdoors. Additionally, it is important to have with you a bottle of sunscreen. Even if you do not typically use it, applying the sunscreen when outdoors will ensure that you are protected from the sometimes-harmful radiation from the sun. Just make sure that you find out if it can be brought in through the airport customs if not, you will have to purchase it upon landing.

While packing takes into account that, you will likely be sweating a lot more than you usually would be. This means that you will have to either get friendly with the closest laundry or bring in extra pairs of clothes! This will allow you to stay fresh even during the warmest days while also having spare clothes in case your clothes get dirty and worn.

One last thing that needs to be kept in mind is to always have some water with you and to be aware of where you can get refills from. Staying hydrated is crucial, but it may not be so important if you are staying at an Oman resort such as the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort during your entire visit.

Be considerate of local customs

Despite being apart of the middle east, Oman can be considered as a relatively lax nation in terms of its dress codes. However, if you are visiting any religious locations, cultural sites or locations out of the major cities then it is expected that you cover-up.

What this means for men is that you will have to have your shoulders and legs covered up as a minimum with women expected to cover up their arms and hair as well. So, keep these dress codes in mind when you are packing up for the trip, it is unlikely that you will be able to wear a lot of tank tops when in Oman.

If you are a woman entering the country, then bring with you plenty of long dresses that can be worn at all times. Linen pants as well as scarves are recommended for their comfort as well as a great alternative for hats to cover up against the sun or the desert sand.

Keep your documents close

While it may seem obvious, it bears repeating. Always remember to pack in your important documents. For example, if you choose to hire a car, you will need to have your licenses with you. Oman has so many amazing sites and attractions to visit so you certainly would be in for an amazing experience if you rent a car. If you are entering the country, keep your printable tickets and other travel documents on your person at all times.

Keeping your passport and identification close will allow you to navigate through security checkpoints or personnel without any hassle. The last thing you want is to be fumbling around inside your bag as an impatient policeman is looking over you.
