Tipped to be one of the most popular kitesurfing hotspots in the country, hitting the waves in picturesque Perth is a dream all kitesurfers entertain. Offering water sports enthusiasts the ideal weather and water conditions for engaging in a plethora of water-bound activities, the area is particularly spectacular kitesurfing hotspots make it a must-visit highlight for all. Here are some tips on how to enjoy a kitesurfing holiday in Perth.

1. Secure a Strategic Base

Those who intend to spend most of their holiday in Perth engaged in kitesurfing activities should ensure the hotel they select is within close range of the city's best kitesurfing locations. Whether you select the Pan Pacific Perth or any similar Perth hotels, it is important to select a seaside base which offers easy access to some if not all of the area's top kitesurfing locations. Choosing an accommodation provider that organizes kitesurfing tours can also be an advantage for first-time visitors who are unfamiliar with the lay of the land and Perth's coveted kitesurfing hubs. If one cannot secure a beachside hotel for budgetary reasons, the next best option is to find a venue that's within close range of the beach.

2. Sign Up for Lessons

Travellers who are anxious to try kitesurfing for the first time can also sign up for lessons with a resort or with a local kitesurfing school. Perth is home to a plethora of water sports centres and schools specifically geared towards offering a short and informative course on kitesurfing and other water-bound activities. Make sure to sign up for classes before you land in Perth as it may be difficult and costly to find an instructor if one has not sought out kitesurfing classes beforehand. Keep in mind that kitesurfing lessons offered by resorts and hotels are noticeably more expensive than private lessons from a tour operator or a kitesurfing school.

3. Head to Pinnaroo Point

As one of the best-known kitesurfing points in Perth that has cemented itself on Perth's top kitesurfing spots list, Pinnaroo Point is a dream come true for those with intermediary or expert skills in the sport. Ideally located close to Hillarys Boat Harbour, the area is not suitable for beginners as the shore winds and the depth of the water makes kitesurfing a challenge for those without the necessary skills or practice. Kite Bud and Action Sports WA are two schools located in the area where visitors can enjoy lessons.

4. Explore Fremantle

As one of the favourite kitesurfing locations of local pro, Simon Wichterman, both northern and southern reaches of Freemantle provide excellent conditions for kitesurfing. The afternoon breeze is especially strong in this part of Perth while nearby beach such as Port Beach and Leighton Beach is also prime spots for engaging in a bit of kitesurfing. Beginners can also test the waters of Freemantle as the waves and the speeds are not too difficult to manage when compared to other Perth kitesurfing joints.

5. Uncover Melville Beach

Tourist in search of an area that's perfect or tailor-made for beginners, on the other hand, will find no finer alternative to Melville Beach. Ideally situated a mere 20 minutes from the heart of Perth City, the gusty winds and the shallow waters of this particular beach make it a great place for newbies to practice their kitesurfing skills. Some well-known schools are also found in the area due to the fantastic conditions prevalent on the beach and these include Seabreeze and Soulkite.

6. Check Out City Beach and Scarborough Beach

Just 10km from the city centre, City Beach is a well-regarded kitesurfing point for seasoned experts and intermediary surfers. The summertime is the best time of the year to enjoy the sport in this part of town while Scarborough Beach nearby provides a more tranquil and less crowded environment in which to experience being one with the waves.
