Indonesia is a fun family destination to visit because of its beautiful landscapes, rich culture and warm hospitality. The logistics of a family trip to Indonesia can be quite challenging as there can be a lot of travelling involved when getting around, but with a good amount of planning your dream family vacation can be quite a fun experience. Let us take a look at a few important points to remember when planning your trip for your family.

When to visit Indonesia

The ideal time to visit the tropical paradise of Indonesia is during the dry season, which spans from May to September. The clear skies and perfect warm temperatures make for the perfect time to explore the lovely jungles, pristine beaches and the many cultural attractions that Indonesia has to offer.

Getting Around Indonesia

The Indonesian transport system will vary from island to island. Bali doesn’t have trains, but Java has a vast network of trains, so it is important to research and plan accordingly. In the islands where trains are available, they make for the most comfortable and best way of travelling over long distances. There are usually 3 different classes to choose from Eksekutif (Executive), Bisnis (Business) & Ekonomi (Economy). If trains aren’t available as a mode of transportation, then you will certainly find buses. There are large coaches to small minibuses which are locally known as “Bemos” which are a cheap method of travelling from town to town. Private chauffeur-driven cars or vans are other suitable options to use to travel as they are the most convenient, especially if you have a lot of stops along the way while travelling. There are also ferries available when travelling across the various islands as well as internal domestic flights that can be reasonably affordable.

Choosing Where to Stay

Indonesia has many options to choose from when it comes to places to stay. These vary from luxury hotels, villas or serviced apartments such as Somerset Central Bundang. Serviced apartments can be rented out for longer durations of visits and make for comfortable living in a home-like setting that will be familiar to your children. You should consider looking for accommodation near Pangyo Techno Valley which is located conveniently in the Central Business District, as it will give you good accessibility to travel around and also be close by if you need to return back early if the day becomes too tiring for your children.

Family Friendly Activities

There are countless fun activities to experience during your stay in Indonesia. From Water parks and theme parks to wildlife walks in nature parks, Indonesia has many exciting places that make for ideal day trips with the family. There is a selection of waterparks such as Waterbom Bali and Atlantis Water Adventure in Jakarta as well as amusement parks like Ancol Dreamland in Jakarta and Trans Studio in Bandung that make for a thrilling adventure for children and parents alike. The Komodo National Park, Baluran National Park and the West Bali National Park are just a few of the many parks that Indonesia has to offer. While you are out exploring the city as a family you will surely come across many delightful dishes and street food to feast on. Taking tours of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and visiting the many religious sites such as the Yogyakarta’s Borobudur Temple and Central Java’s Prambanan Temple as a family makes for a wholesome experience together.
