Several of Mackay's most famous beaches could be found on its Northern coastline. Beautiful sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and the reality that these Mackay beaches are generally calm are what draw tourists to these towns. Let’s take a quick look at the popular beaches here that you must not miss out on!

Shoal Point

To see a magnificent sunset over the rocky peaks of the incredible Cape Hillsborough, this is definitely the place to be. Barbecue options at O'Brien Esplanade reserve offer a peaceful location beneath towering trees, just overlooking the clear seas. Enjoy a barbeque meal while soaking up the sunset views behind the exotic hinterland and witness a variety of multicoloured birds make their way back home at dusk.

Blacks Beach

If you are travelling from the Central Business District (CBD) of Mackay, continue north on the Bruce Highway through Northpoint Retail Centre, and then take a right turn to enter Mackay-Bucasia Road. Take this opportunity to visit the different shopping malls along the route, to stock up on food for a pleasant day at the Blacks beach. Do not forget to carry lots of water and dose upon plenty of sunscreens! Drive into Eimeo Road and then follow signs taking you to Blacks Beach, the longest beach here in Mackay, spanning six miles. Stroll the coastline or investigate the cool paths amid the greenery, which surrounds the lengthy beach.

Eimeo Beach

Take Eimeo Road all the way to Eimeo Beach, which is a swimmer's dream come true. Mango Avenue, which is a UNESCO heritage-listed landmark that runs from Whittles Lane to Heidke Street and provides a covered canopy over the cityscape, is a must-see for everyone visiting the city. Choose between a picnic on the beach utilising the amenities on Eimeo Esplanade or a meal with amazing ocean views at a hotel in Mackay the likes of Oaks Mackay Rivermarque Hotel, or even a combination of both.

Bucasia Beach

Begin your trip all along Mackay-Bucasia Road, and then obey the road signs down Downie Avenue until you approach Bucasia Beach. Grab a cup of coffee as well as a piece of cake while taking in the sea views before sinking your feet into the soft sand of Bucasia's long, sandy beach. There are amenities for freshening up and relaxing at Seaview Park, which is located on the Bucasia Esplanade and includes a grill, toilets, showers picnic tables, playground and so much more!

Mango Avenue

A short walk from Mango Avenue will take you to the heart of the picturesque Eimeo Village. The eighty-year-old Mango trees that span from Whittles Lane to Heidke Street create a magnificent shaded canopy of twenty metres above the cityscape. This continues to be a must-see tourist destination that is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Make time in your itinerary to visit Eimeo Beach for a cool dip in the ocean. You will not be able to overlook the beauty of Mango Avenue, which serves as the major road to both locations. Take your camera, or if you're an artist, bring a sketchbook and pencils to recreate the beautiful natural tunnel created by the soaring branches above. If you're a photographer, make absolutely sure you bring the camera with you.

Dolphin Heads

Dolphin Heads, popular among photographers, is a picturesque portion of Mackay's Northern Beaches. It takes 15 minutes by vehicle to get there from Mackay's CBD. The region is believed to have received its name because of the form of the promontory, which resembles two dolphin heads. It is quite possible to walk from Dolphin Heads to its neighbour - Eimeo Beach - across the tidal creek bed, at low tide.
