Hemlock Shores

In Bala, Ontario there is a cottage that is a must stay rental for a vacationers. This cottage, also known as Hemlock Shores, is located on Hesner’s Lake which is located right at the heart of Bala.

Now for those of you that don’t know the area very well, Bala is located in the Muskoka area of Ontario and is the home of the Cranberry Festival which occurs mid-October every year. Aside from being the home of the Cranberry Festival, Bala also boasts some of Muskoka's most gorgeous lakes which just so happens to make it a beautiful haven for summer vacations of swimming, boating and various beach activities as well as a beautiful winter location for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and other various winter activities.

Let’s also not forget about the Kee to Bala. For those of you that don’t know, the Kee to Bala is a major concert venue for the Muskoka area and has been open since 1942. The Kee boasts being venue to artists such as The Trews, The Sheepdogs, Big Wreck and the list goes on and on. On the nights that concerts aren’t scheduled, there are theme nights as well as DJ’s. The Kee has also been known as a great location to hold weddings that over look Lake Muskoka.

Now that you’ve gotten to know the area a little bit let’s get back to the main topic; Hemlock Shores.

The Cottage

This beauty of a cottage can be booked to stay in for a week at a time. The process is extremely easy and can be done online here or over the phone (1-866-323-6698). As I have said, it is great to stay at year around with all of the activities that are offered, BUT if you are staying in the winter please make sure that you have snow tires as the driveway is a little steep.

Hemlock Shores has three bedrooms and can comfortably sleep six adults. One bedroom containing a queen-sized bed, one bedroom containing a double bed and the final bedroom containing two twin-sized beds (perfect for the kids)!

This cottage really shines during the summertime. It’s walking distance from town as well as the Kee to Bala, which makes it a perfect location for anyone looking to sample some summertime concerts. Or if one was looking to get away from it all, the beautiful dock and water activities can keep you occupied without ever leaving the property. There is also a selection of water activities provided by the owner, such as a canoe and a paddle boat. The fire pit is the perfect evening activity to bring the family together. Don’t forget the marshmallows! Ghost stories around the campfire make for a great evening. The tale of the Hesner’s Lake ghost will scare even the bravest soul.

If the weather makes it so outdoor activities are impossible, never fear. Inside there is a large collection of DVDs, board games and of course, the WiFi. Since a DVD player/TV is available, don’t be afraid to bring some of your own collection in case of bad weather.

One of the things I enjoyed the most at Hemlock Shores (besides the beautiful scenery!) is the spacious kitchen/dining area. The large area makes preparing meals easy, add this to the screened in Muskoka room and outdoor propane BBQ, and meal times just seem to come to life. The large dining area/Muskoka room also are perfect places for playing games, escaping bad weather or just having a good time.
