You’re staying indoors?! Why? There’s no excuse for you to stay cosy on your sofa when a whole world of adventure awaits at your doorstep! Sydney is buzzing with excitement this month and if you're not sure of stepping out, check out this list featuring the ol’ quintessential city experiences, excellent cultural/foody times and some brilliant winter sunshine.

Capture the best of ‘Emerald City’

First things first, Sydney is huge and so is the scope of enjoying its pristine beauty. If you’re keen on spending your day on the waters (not literally), and indulge in a remarkable dining experience with views that you won’t find in regular diners, then you can do just that. The harbour waterways is a playground for Sydney Harbour dinner cruises, which offers you the chance to enjoy close-up views of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Luna Park, Fort Denison and much more!

Even the Sydney Harbour lunch cruises, for that reason, are a great way to spend a couple of hours of your day on the harbour, marvelling at everything that makes Sydney the iconic harbour city that it is today. Not to mention, you get to set your social feeds on fire with some unique angles of you against this legendary backdrop!

Immerse yourself in ‘Ikebana’

The best part about Sydney is that no matter what time of the year you decide to visit, you’ll always end up having a good time at one of the many cultural/art festivals. August is no different! The Cherry Blossom Festival will return in August in the Auburn Botanical Gardens, celebrating everything about Japanese culture - music, food, and more! Stroll through fields of fluffy pink blossoms, find your way through the trail and check out the many vendors who’ll be peddling yummy Japanese delicacies. You will also get a chance to learn about the delicate art of ikebana (flower arranging) from the budding flower arrangers themselves. Book your tickets early, as things might get a bit busy this year!

A heroic gesture

We already know Sydney is exxy. But it’s even harder to get by at the moment; it’s already tough for those of us who work full time, harder to imagine for those working their way through uni. But all hope ain't ever lost. The heroic food vendors at Broadway Shopping Centre have set up something where 100 free meals are given every Tuesday to students between August and November. Venues including Hero Sushi, Zeus Street Greek, Ben and Jerry’s and a whole lot more will be offering anyone with a student card something along the lines of mini chicken burritos, avocado rolls, pork buns etc. Those who participate will also get an automatic draw to a $1000 voucher, which can be spent at any Broadway store! Just think of the possibilities!

Feed your inner geek

We weren’t kidding when we said there’s something for everyone here. Never miss a chance to widen your spectrum of knowledge! Hosting since 2015, the Powerhouse Museum is back with the Sydney Science Festival, this time with the theme of Revival. The theme is a wake-up call to the climate and environment, its rebounding and renewal post-pandemic. The highlights of this week-long festival are talks from a former Google engineer and a former NASA astronaut, alongside immersive activities for the whole family. Get your diaries or notes ready as you will be exposed to some massive truths about the new tech companies!

This is not even close to what Sydney offers in the month of August, but that’s for another time, until then, warm up with these epic activities.

Stay tuned for part two.
