Experience: Lounge Style with Shisha Hookah Smoking

Gossip Patong is a lounge style night club located on Bangla Road in Patong offering a mixture of modern and classic Hip-Hop and R&B style music in a relaxed atmosphere. There is a small dance floor located in the front and couch style seats with tables mid-way to the rear of the bar. Patrons can enjoy single and buckets of bottled drinks, mixed drinks, liquor by the bottle and various flavored shisha from a hookah if they choose.
Gossip tends to attract a younger crowd and tends to get a bit smokey between cigarette and hookah smoke throughout the night. They are open as late as they can manage. As with many bars on Bangla it depends on what time the police make rounds to check and see who is open, some nights you can manage to stay until sunrise and others its closed by 2 a.m.
I did not find any major appeal to Gossip Patong. I normally get a headache from the hookah smoke after spending about 2 hours there and have very little interest in trying to have a conversation on a couch with music blaring from speakers directly behind me. I found the decor interesting. They have some televisions showing various art and images, the style of the furniture and paint on the walls is modern and has a bit of flare. The prices are moderate, which for Bangla road is actually inexpensive. A domestic beer is about half the price as it is in a club like Illuzion and if you buy a bucket of bottles you actually can save quite a bit.
As pictured above, the shisha seems to be a huge draw for younger Thai women. I saw many of them gathered around small round tables with hookahs on them snapping selfies. I know several of my Thai friends often ask to go to Gossip and smoke shisha, which to me is not a reason to go anywhere. Being from Canada if I want to smoke a hookah, I want it packed with something else.
If you are a younger person who wants to sit for and relax for a bit or have a younger Thai girlfriend this would be a good place to go. The younger girls seem to like the idea of the hookah and its less expensive at Gossip than the larger clubs. It is also more relaxed which gives you a night off if she is dragging you out night after night to dance. If you have issues with smoke, Gossip Patong really is not the place for you. As I stated earlier, I found myself with a headache by the time I left on more than one occasion. If you are looking for go-go dancers or bar girls this is not the place for you either. You may find some freelancers or girls there on their night off but it is not a club for picking up that kind of girl really. To me that is a check in the pro column for Gossip Patong but if that is what you are looking for maybe you would prefer Tai Pan down the street.

Was I a Model in Japan?
During my time in Nagoya I worked and lived at the strangely famous hostel and café Nagonoya. With its chequered floors and florescent lighting it felt quite dated, but I think that was supposed to be part of the charm. The dorms were always fully booked on weekends with domestic tourists and there was always a buzz in the downstairs café. Camera crews were constantly in and out of the place interviewing the Japanese staff members who worked the café. I think it had something to do with the egg sandwiches. At least that was what was on most of the merchandise, except for that one dishcloth with the owner’s face on it. Was I being employed by a local celebrity?
