Ghana once was named Africa's most peaceful country. With the surpression of freedom of speech and freedom of journalism in Ghana much of the crime and tribal in-fighting wasn't allowed to be reported.

The Mamprusi and Kusasi ethnic groups have engaged in fierce gun battles for decades over who should control the town's chieftaincy. Health officials, teachers, civil servants, farmers, and many other professionals are fleeing the once-vibrant economic hub of Ghana.

Businesses are closing down and people cannot go to their farms.

“No amount of incentive will force me to return to Bawku. The situation is scary and I can’t risk my life. I would rather remain poor than live in perpetual fear and uncertainty. Bawku is a ticking timebomb,” says Moro Adams, 28, a trained teacher who fled the town last year after his neighbour was killed.

On Wednesday 15 February, one of the feuding parties installed a parallel king that could lead to serious security problems.

Ghana’s Ministry of Information condemned the enskinment of new Bawku Naba, describing it as “illegal and a threat to national

In a country where the police often refuse to send criminal cases to the courts and once I've personally seen a person buy a police report from a police station I was seated in.

Filing a report against 6 Ghanians, a police report that has yet to receive any attention. Despite writing several articles about the sexual assault, along with other fraudulent crimes committed against me.

In December of 2022 the US ambassador in Ghana, warned or the governments abuses towards Ghanian journalists. She mentioned the decline in Senegal as well as Ghana.

However many Black American seem to think that Ghana is the only country in Africa. However there are several amazing countries in Africa that haven't gotten the tourism attention quite like Ghana.

Below I'll list a few, in no particular order but the number one most peaceful country in Africa is Sierra Leone.

# 1. Sierra Leone made Time magazine's 25 places to visit in 2023

Freetown Peninsula, Sierra Leone

Emerging from the pandemic with the backing of the World Bank to help promote the West African nation’s rich tourism potential—with diverse wildlife, world-class surfing waves, the vibey coastal capital of Freetown, and a brand new airport—all odds are on Sierra Leone to explode on the adventure travel scene. The time to go is now.

Start in the Freetown Peninsula, supporting eco-tourism initiatives like the one at Tacaguma Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where endangered primates are rescued and rehabilitated within one of the country’s many hotspots for biodiversity. At the nearby Tasso Ecotourism Project, an island in the Sierra Leone River Estuary, guests stay in rustic timber chalets to enjoy birdwatching and community tourism designed to help islanders economically recover from the Ebola epidemic of the past (the country was officially declared free of the disease in 2015).

#2. Senegal, Dakar Senegal which is also on the list of Time magazine's top 25 places to see in 2023.

Dakar, Senegal

Senegal bursts with color, from the bubblegum pink algae that dye Lake Retba to the blue and yellow mini buses, car rapides, that navigate Dakar’s stylish streetscapes. So it’s no wonder Africa’s westernmost capital city is also a blossoming fashion capital. Arrive on Delta’s direct route from New York, then weave your way through the fabric of a city defined by its modern architecture and contemporary craftspeople.

It’s already old news that Chanel hosted its first runway show in Africa last December at the picturesque former Palais de Justice. In fact: Chanel never left. In January, the French luxury house opened a new exhibition space, le19M Dakar, within the Theodore Monod African Art Museum. The free gallery offers local artisans the opportunity to dye and weave new works on site to display alongside the museum’s permanent collection. The gift shop is curated by one of the city’s most influential entrepreneurs, L’Artisane designer Khadija Ba, who’s also behind nearby concept shop Le Sandaga–an homage to the city’s famed Sandaga Market. L’Artisane is part of a new wave of Dakar womenswear labels getting worldwide acclaim (and dressing celebrities—Naomi Campbell is a fan). If there’s not enough room in your suitcase, pick up a steamer trunk and make the voyage home aboard one of Viking’s transatlantic cruise ships.

#3 Rwanda, Musanze, Rwanda also from the Time magazine list of top 25 countries to visit.

Musanze, Rwanda

From Rwanda New Times News Paper

TIME is an American news magazine based in New York City, it curates the list with an eye toward places offering new and exciting experiences so that they can be on travelers’ radars over the next 12 months.

The selection of Musanze in the list is a testament to the district's impressive growth in recent years, particularly in the area of tourism.

Musanze, which is known for its stunning landscape and rich biodiversity, has become a popular destination among nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. From gorilla trekking in the nearby Volcanoes National Park to hiking the scenic trails of the Virunga Mountains, Musanze offers a range of outdoor activities that cater to different interests.

One of the highlights of Musanze that caught global attention and TIME's editorial team is ‘The opening of the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and Gorilla Doctors campus,’ Both of which invest in the conservation and research of endangered mountain gorillas.

#4. Is Namibia, which isn't on the list from Time magazine, however it's worth a visit and often over looked. The country has not only a diverse population but they're very much into their sports.

Namibia is a country in the southern portion of Africa. Some of the places to see in Namibia include, Etosha National Park, Fish River Canyon Park, the Namib desert, and the Kalahari Desert.

#5 Honorable mention Morocco, which is Africa's most visited countries. It's also on Time magazines list as well.

Rabat, Morocco

Artistic and cultural reinvention is bringing new life to the capital city of Rabat. In 2023, LEED-Gold and HQE-certified Mohammed VI Tower will stand as the tallest tower in Africa, boasting luxury accommodations and a panoramic viewing terrace at approximately 800 feet. And the newly completed multifunctional cultural venue Grand Theatre of Rabat, with a 1,821 seat hall, is the largest theater in the Arab world and in Africa. Opening in 2023, it will host ballet, opera, symphony, and philharmonic performances. The innovative building, shaped like an undulating wave, contains a crystalline geometric auditorium designed by famed Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, as well as a 7,000-seat amphitheater, green spaces, a restaurant, workshops, and a bookstore.

Further south is Mafia Island, which is part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago. The total population of Zanzibar is around 1.3 million people.

Monrovia is the capital of Liberia as well as its largest city. It is located on Bushrod Island and Cape Mesurado along the Mesurado River. A 2008 census showed its population as 970,824.

Monrovia was founded on April 25, 1822 by members of the American Colonization Society (ACS), an organization created to return U.S.-born former slaves to Africa. ACS representatives first arrived on the Mesurado River in 1821. The original name of Monrovia was Christopolis. In 1824 it was renamed “Monrovia” after James Monroe, who was the American President at the time as well as a supporter of the American Colonization Society. The indigenous populations of the areas surrounding Monrovia felt that the city was built on stolen land and began attacking it as early as 1822. Those attacks continued sporadically until the mid-nineteenth century.

Monrovia’s first settlers were former Southern slaves. Not surprisingly the early architecture of the city was largely influenced by the style of the Southern antebellum buildings.

#7 The Gambia (known literally as The Gambia)

#9 & #10 Are Botswana and Eswaini, once named Swaziland, both are in Southern Africa. They have a rich and diverse history. Botswana is one of the more accepting LGTBQ countries in Africa. There is so much diverse culture in both countries.

Sadly you can't visit both at once as Botswana is a land locked country, while Eswatini is on the coast, just outside of South Africa. By the way South Africa is a huge wonderland of beautiful views. It would take several trips or several months to see all South Africa has to offer.

Zimbabwe is the neighbor of Botswana.

Besides wildlife there are cultural events, museums to visit as well as a diverse sporting events. Eswatini has one of Africa's last remaining monarchs. He renamed the country from Swaziland to Eswatini, some still refer to the country by that name today.
