In spite of the fact that we have a sunny hot Christmas compared to the western white Christmas, we don’t miss out on the Christmassy ambience. Sydneysiders get very outdoorsy during the season and they indulge in activities like sunbathing on the beaches, Christmas party boat hire on Sydney Harbour, watching the famous Boxing Day yacht races and so on. Read on for more ideas on how to celebrate the festival in Sydney.

At the beach

Sydney is well-known for its thriving beach culture. In summer, people prefer to spend their Christmas outdoors, and there’s nothing that beats the sprawling beaches. Surfing the waves, enjoying pleasant conversations with friends and family along with food and drinks will surely cool you down on a hot summer’s day. For that perfect Christmas celebration, you can head down to the famous Bondi Beach or Marley Beach in Sydney.

On a cruise

Summer evidently makes one lazy, plus being in the festive mood, no one may want to move a finger. A Christmas party aboard a cruise is perfect for that chilling ambience, over the serene waters as you sail past the most amazing views. Better yet, to enjoy a more customised experience, you can always go for a Christmas party boat cruise just like we do.

With a traditional roast

The main highlight of Christmas is the food of course. Sydneysiders usually have freshly barbecued seafood. Roast Turkey, pork belly and Christmas pudding are the norm when it comes to setting the table for Christmas. And of course, Christmas won’t be complete without beers and cheers.

Attending Christmas service

As Christmas denotes the birth of Christ, the religious would prefer to celebrate it in a spiritual way., For all those who want to attend Christmas service, you can attend the mass at St.Patrick's Church, St.Mary’s Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church etc. which are some of the historic churches that are also very popular for their architectural wonder.

By singing Christmas carols

Sydney hosts an annual Australian Christmas concert event in the Domain Gardens on the last Sunday before Christmas Eve. This non-ticketed event includes music from local orchestras and choirs and a range of drinks and food stalls presided over by Santa Claus. Being a part of such an event can only make Christmas merry for everyone, don’t you think so?

Play cricket

As people wait for their Christmas lunch or dinner to be on the table, there’s another Aussie tradition that is in stark contrast to the western ways. They play cricket. Being the national sport, cricket is one of the games that people can’t refrain from playing during this festive season. Aussies are good at turning any unassuming place into a cricket ground such as a beach, park, street or their own backyard.

Celebrating Boxing Day

Right after Christmas comes Boxing Day, which is generally marked as a holiday for gifting the poor or lower working class. But in Sydney, there’s more to the day. The famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race takes place on the famous Sydney Harbour. Another prominent event is the Boxing Day Test Match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Christmas is celebrated in Sydney in a grand way that it brings out the festive spirit. So, whenever you think of visiting Sydney during Christmas, make sure you celebrate it in style.
