Lots of determination. . quite a bit of planning & now they're living their dream. .

When you're "ALL IN", there's no turning back. When you finally make your mind up to change your life totally. . the results speak for themselves!

May 1st, 2021: Jerry & Mariana were your typical burnt-out, middle-aged couple living in the western suburbs of Chicago. Nice home. . they worked hard all their lives and deserved something comfortable in life. Two new cars. . Two huge walk-in closets full of designer clothes. . dozens of pairs of shoes. . right out of GQ and ELLE magazines. .

Beautiful outside kitchen designed around a 30' x 22' patio. . parties every weekend. Two dogs, three grown kids. . lots of memories there. Tennis court, pool & no time to enjoy all of this!

They both paid dearly for this luxury life they "enjoyed" for three decades. A long, 1-hour commute to downtown Chicago each and every day. . traffic, snow, traffic, stress, traffic. . 2 hours every day, up and back. Five days a week.

And when they arrived downtown to their offices. . Jerry at his engineering job and Mariana at her law firm. . the 'fun' began. At least 5 meetings a day. . 6 cups of coffee BEFORE noon. . 25 to 50 phone calls. . lunch with clients. Always 'on'. . never a moment to relax. Then, when they arrived home about 7 pm or so, they had paperwork to finish up. An hour of 'rest and relaxation' and to bed after that. Next morning. . same thing. The RAT RACE on steriods.

Totally burnt out, they decided to take a vacation together to Costa Rica. This was their third time visiting. They arrived May 1st of this year. They stayed in San Jose the first night. They rented a car and made their way to the Lake Arenal area. Three days and nights of hot springs, cloud forest hikes and amazing views, tropical birds, and lots of rest. They then went to Tamarindo for three days, soaking up the sun and relaxing on the beach. . early to bed and early to rise. Day seven was spent traveling across to the Caribbean coastal area to the Tortuguero National Park. They stayed in a rustic lodge, only accessible by boat, for four days. They had a chance to unwind, reboot, relax & recharge. On the fifth day there, they made their way back to San Jose, stayed two days there and flew back to their hell on earth. . back to stress, phone calls, commuting & high blood pressure. They didn't want to leave Costa Rica. . but they had to get back. They HAD TO GET BACK to sell everything and move to one of the happiest countries on the planet. That moment, on the seventh day in Costa Rica, when Jerry turned to Mariana over a breakfast of Gallo Pinto, with monkeys and birds howling and screeching in the distance. . with butterflies and hummingbirds landing on the flowers in the atrium surrounding their breakfast table. . that was the moment when they looked at each other and first discussed their new life, away from it all. It was a unanimous decision! And an easy one at that for both of them! No regrets.

When they returned to the grind in Chicago. . they put the wheels in motion. The were in a position to work remotely. . both of them. . so they could 'ease out of the RAT RACE slowly'. But the fact is that in less than two months, their home was sold, their arrangements were made, their furniture was given away to their kids and they were on their way to Costa Rica. . this time for good.

August 1st, 2021: They arrived in Costa Rica, San Jose area once again with a 30-day reservation at one of the local hotels by the airport. They rented a car and now are in the process of finding a place to rent for a few months. They are leaning towards the beautiful little town of Grecia, just north of San Jose. They also love Atenas, just down the road from Grecia. They will buy a car after they get settled in.

We first heard from this wonderful couple around the first of July. They contacted us to begin their residency and legal status process. We talk to a lot of people each and every week. I will have to say that Jerry and Mariana were two of the most excited people we have heard from in quite a while!

We wish them the best. Sometimes one must make huge changes in their life to get back on the right track. . to get back to TRUE SANITY. To some, it's crazy to move to another country. . to others, it is required to keep one's mind and spirit healthy and to live life to its fullest.
