Price Range: Low to Moderate
Experience: Relaxed Thai Restaurant Not Offering Pork
Food: Appetizers, Seafood, Thai
The Duck Spicy Restaurant is located heading North along the coast just on the outskirts of Patong. If you drive too fast on your way out you may just miss it and end up in Kamala. The Duck Spicy offers a variety of traditional Thai and Esaan dishes as well as Seafood in a multi - level, covered, open sided restaurant. They have a tiki bar located in the front offering great mixed drinks and have live music in the evenings for your enjoyment.
I have spent many evenings at this restaurant enjoying food and drinks with friends and dates. The atmosphere is fantastic and so is the food. You get that open patio feeling even though you are shielded from rain and wind. You are right across the street from the ocean so the breeze is always nice and the restaurant is tucked away off the main road enough that you don't really notice any of the traffic.
The only downside I found with Duck Spicy is they didn't offer pork and that is my preference when I dine out. To those who prefer not to have pork in their diet the Duck Spicy is a really good choice. There is no concern of cross contamination depending on what your reasoning is for not eating this type of meat.
The service at Duck Spicy is better than most Thai restaurants. Normally when a group of us go to places in the area they bring the appetizers with the main course and by the time the last person gets their dish the person who got theirs first is either done eating or their food has gone cold. The Duck Spicy has their timing down well and understands that an appetizer is for before the main course. All the mains will come out at the same time and everyone can eat a hot meal together this way. It's small things like this that make a difference when eating Thai.
The food as I said is very delicious. It's low to moderately priced depending on what you order. Seafood is always a bit pricey no matter where you get it and the portion sizes at Duck Spicy are large compared to most Thai restaurants which makes up for the few extra baht on dishes like Krapow.
I recommend the Duck Spicy if you are going on a date or if you have a large group. They can accommodate very large parties, I have seen tables of 40 eat there with no problems. If you have more than 8 people going I would call ahead or have someone from the Thai staff at your hotel call to make arrangements.
