CH Switzerland --- Zurich on a Budget Stopover

✈️Planning Your Visit

When you start thinking visiting Switzerland, you might ask: Which cities should I explore?
Let me tell you upfront-- Switzerland is not cheap. But with the right planning you can make the most of it without breaking the bank. Choose places that are close to your heart and align with your budget.

As a budget traveler myself, and the high cost of accommodation and food,
I recommend making Switzerland a stopover destination. I chose Zurich.
Try arriving in Zurich early in the morning (between 8:00 am and 9:00 am), which gives you a full day to explore.
🚍 Getting Around Zurich with Public Transport

To get around easily, download the ZVV-App. It’s great for buying tickets and checking public transport timetables.
Ticket Tip:
• I recommend the 24-hour All-Zone 2nd class ticket (currently CHF 35.60 as of June 2025). You can also purchase what suites you.
• Buy it online in advance so you don’t need to line up at the ticket office.
• From Zurich Airport, follow the signs to the train station and take the train to Zurich HB (main station). If needed, store your luggage in the lockers at the station start exploring.

🏞️ Journey to Lindt Home of Chocolate
To reach Lindt:
• Take a train from Zurich HB to Kilchberg (approx. 8 minutes).
🍫 Lindt – The Home of Chocolate (Kilchberg, Zurich)
If you passionate about chocolate and its making of it, which Swiss are famous for, then you should visit Lindt the home of chocolate in Zurich (Kilchberg suburb) and believe me the time you will spend there is thoroughly worth it.

• Walk from the station and follow signs to Lindt. There’s a walkway that leads straight there.
• Important: Buy your ticket online beforehand. It can get very busy, and you don’t want to miss out.
• There are also small Lockers for your Bags and Backpacks, but not for your Luggage.
🎟️ Ticket Prices (as of May 2025):
• Adults: CHF 17.00
• Discounted categories: CHF 15.00
Before leaving, make sure to:
• Explore the chocolate shop
• Stop by the Lindt Café for a delicious cake and a Chocochino—a perfect way to end the visit.

⛴️ Take the Ferry Return Journey for Scenic Views
After your visit, take a walk along the lake towards the Ferry Station.
To make the most of it, take a ferry heading away from the Zurich city center. This gives you more time to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake.
Afterward, you can:
• Take a tram back to Zurich HB (Main Train Station)
• Or walk through Zurich’s Old Town—a delightful experience full of character and charm.

From the ferry station you can take Tram back to the main rail station or walk and try to come back through the old Zurich town, which is great and fun by itself or you can use your public transport ticket for other sightseeing adventure around Zurich.

🍽️ Time for Food & Rest
Before ending your stopover, treat yourself to a nice meal. While eating out in Switzerland isn’t cheap, I’ve added images of some Swiss Specialty Dishes offered at Dining Places. The choice is yours—budget-friendly or indulgent!
