Patriotic activities will be held in many areas of the city and in a large variety of ways. From the National Independence Day Parade all the way to fireworks that will end the night. The one location requirement is that you have a clear view of the sky towards the West Potomac Park.

The city of Washington D.C. has the whole day planned and we’ll offer you two options for spending your best 4th of July day in Washington D.C. It is by far the most exciting place to be on July 4th. If you want to spend the festivities with family and friends celebrating the greatest National Birthday Party the National Mall is the place to go. If, however, the National Mall is too crowded for your liking, we’ll provide options.

National Mall Celebrations

Get ready for parades, concerts, presidential addresses and enough fireworks to make this country of ours proud. The festivities will start early and end late so make sure you are fueled with enough energy to last you throughout the day.

National Independence Day Parade

From 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. you should line up somewhere along Constitution Avenue for the best viewpoints. It will start from the corner of 7th Street and go all the way to 17th Street for a 1 mile explosion of a red, white and blue extravaganza. Giant balloons, marching bands, military units, other floaters and many more will fill Constitution Avenue waving flags along the way.

Salute to America

At the Lincoln Memorial President, Donald J. Trump will host the event Salute to America. It will be an hour-long presidential address to the nation, starting at 6:30 p.m. Military demonstrations and flyovers are expected as well as the U.S. Army Band, the Armed Forces Chorus and United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team.

A Capitol Fourth

Starting at 8 p.m on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the crowds will be entertained by award-winning artists, the National Symphony Orchestra, as well as the immensely popular Sesame Street Muppets. Among the artists are Carole King, Colbie Caillat, and Vanessa Williams. It is expected to end after 9 p.m. when the culminating part of the night will draw attention to the bank of Potomac River.

Fireworks Display

Expected to start at 9:07 p.m. the spectacular fireworks show will be launched from behind Lincoln Memorial and West Potomac Park. The show will be visible throughout the District and Northern Virginia, rooftop bars as well as National Mall and the banks of the Potomac River. For this, you should arrive early as there will be security checks at the various entrances. The firework display will end at 9:27 p.m. and make sure to leave any pets at home as the sound will be quite disturbing for animals, especially dogs.

Alternative Celebrations

If you want to avoid the National Mall festivities but still want to celebrate America’s birthday then we have the tips for you. Fireworks are a must so we’ll make sure to give you the right options.

The Secret

No, this isn’t a bar or venue. It’s a cheaper, no entrance fee, and grab your own menu joint. Find that friend that can provide an accessible rooftop with a view of the National Mall area and you are set. Bring your own food, get your own drinks, music of your choice and the people that matter by your side. There are many options as long as you know where to look and make sure you’re not late. A decent rooftop party sounds like a good deal. Wanna make sure you have access to a rooftop like that? Get in touch with the local realtors in Washington D.C. in order to secure a great viewpoint of your own.

Mount Vernon

In Mount Vernon, they host an event at George Washington’s home in order to celebrate the birth of the nation with fireworks, re-enactments, a naturalization ceremony, and a wreath-laying ceremony. For those enjoying the festivities on the 4th of July at Mount Vernon, there will be a free birthday cake and the National Concert Band’s performance. Tickets start at $12 for children to $20 for adults.

The LINE DC

With a special room package for Independence Day, The LINE allows access to the Vela Rooftops as well as 2 celebratory drinks and spectacular views of the firework display. There is a “City View 4th” packet available for spending the night of July 4th with special rates that are applied automatically for nights surrounding the 4th.

Rooftop Bars

There are several options available for a great viewpoint of the fireworks throughout the District. The Sky Bar from the Beacon Hotel or the Summit from Conrad Hotel house events created especially for the occasion. Make sure to book in advance and request ticket information as they are expected to fill up soon.

Comfy Ground Level Restaurants

A great view and a great meal deal can be found in the areas surrounding the National Mall. Downtown or Georgetown, as well as the Wharf, provide for comfortable places to enjoy dinner and the Independence Day fireworks. Perfect for family and friends as well as children as it will be away from the crowded streets surrounding the National Mall, away from the loud BANGS of the fireworks and safe from the cramped viewing points.

Conclusion

Whichever way best suits your family and friends, this is time better spent with those you love. As our great nation was built for a promise of a better tomorrow, we should make sure that we remember that on this day, we celebrate America’s Birthday, in your own style and bond with those around you. Our country wouldn’t have made it this far without togetherness and compassion.

Watch the fireworks display, wave the Stars Spangled Banner with pride and honor the beauty that is our nation.
