Croatia’s second largest city after the capital city of Zagreb is Split. This beautiful city is popularly known as being the place where modernity and city life merge with an intriguing touch of ancient, traditional lifestyle. Split treats its visitors with an atmosphere that is quite easy and laid-back, giving visitors a cool-off from the hustle and bustle of the usual city life. Split in Croatia, should definitely be in your travel bucket-list for the following reasons.

1. The Historical Roman Palace

Split boasts of not only being the second largest city in Croatia, but also of its historical masterpiece, the Diocletian’s Palace. This amazing historical seaside attraction in Split was built around the 7th Century AD. It was the home of the Diocletian emperor. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the palace was well maintained and is currently a tourist attraction, a commercial business hub and boasts of being the reason behind the vibrant city’s restaurants as well as nightlife sceneries. The historical feeling of this palace is simply magnificent, the ancient arts as well as the breathtaking views of the sunset from the ancient palace.

2. The Legendary Dalmatian Coffee

Split is also famous for its Dalmatian Coffee culture. The myths are actually true, in Splits, the Dalmatians do spend quality time basking in the sun drinking coffee. In Split, one does not simply have a quick cup of coffee, in Split it can be a whole afternoon’s affair. The Croatians have cultivated this tradition with utmost reverence. The locals enjoy it and do not strain at all when it comes to sipping the legendary coffee that is brewed heavy and full of froth. This during your visit, you shall enjoy on a terrace that is sun-drenched as you enjoy watching locals on the narrow streets of Split. However as a visitor, you might be met with a not-so-cool stare if you order a za van’, a coffee-to-go. It is simply not the culture in Split.

The main beach in Split is the Bacvice. This beach is a stone-throw away from the Diocletian Palace. Split is best known for the beautiful beaches and rugged coves. During your visit at Split, the beautiful beaches kind of have two personalities. During the day, they are absolutely a fun place to hang out with family and friends, while at night, it is a wild party hub that will definitely guarantee you the best time of your life. If you prefer a more secluded and private beach, Trstenik would be the place for you. It is located south of Bacvice, has a gorgeous sandy cove that is just perfect for sunbathing and enjoying some tranquil time.

4. The Vibrant Nightlife

Split is the hub of parties. The tourists and locals can party all night in Split. The nightlife is simply out of this world. Split boasts of a stadium fest that can go for up to three whole days. It is graced with Day-Glo and very beautiful fireworks. The view is just spectacular at night. The wild parties are also known to attract party-lovers from all over Europe and the entire globe as well. Another popular event is Split is Ultra festival, which attracts many people every year.

5. Island Hoping

One of the experiences that makes visiting Split a worthwhile and an unforgettable one, is the fact that you can actually take a yacht and visit the nearby islands as well Other Islands that border Split include the Hvar, Vis, and Brac. The islands are just a short ride away from each other, but what is intriguing is the fact that their traditions and lifestyles are quite distinct from each other. For instance, Hvar is known to be full of glitz and glam with a string of exotic hotels and clubs plus a bay full of luxury yachts. Brac Island is unique on its own being near the mainland. It has a modest ambience generally and is famous for its beach centerpiece, the Zlatni Rat. Vic Island is a remote one and pretty laid-back compared to the other islands.

6. The Cathedral of St. Domnius

This grand piece of architecture in Split, also called the Saint Duje is one of the must-see sights in Split. Saint Duje was constructed in the 7th century by the Roman Catholics. Tourists normally flock to see the great masterpiece and also see the wealth of the church’s treasury.

7. The Egyptian Sphinx

The Egyptian sphinx should never miss in your must-visit sites during your stay in Split. The breathtaking sculpture was brought from Africa and used in the interior decoration of the palace. The most amazing fact is that the Sphinx was already 2000 years old when it was brought to the palace, so you can imagine how ancient it is now.

Split is one amazing city to spend your vacation on. Its wonderful mouthwatering cuisines, beautiful climate that simply add more glamour to the breathtaking views and sceneries the city is blessed with, beautiful beaches, the list is simply endless. The only remedy therefore is to find out more about Split by visiting it.
