Australia offers travelers a chance to explore sun-drenched beaches, lively coral reefs, rugged mountains, serene outback and awe-inspiring rain forests. Not only that, much of this terrain is accessible by car – and there are numerous popular road trips that are worth doing. The following list will introduce you to 4 of Australia's best-beloved road trips:

1. The Great Ocean Road

Do you enjoy gazing at wondrous ocean views? Would you be interested in stopping your vehicle to explore a variety of coves, rock formations, tide pools and surf spots as you drive along Australia's coastline? If the answer is yes, you'll definitely want to consider taking a journey on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

The Great Ocean Road will take you to some of Australia's most esteemed points of interest. One prominent grouping of landmarks is known as the Twelve Apostles, which is a cluster of eye-catching limestone rock formations. These craggy stacks of stone make appealing subjects for photographs, and thus they are of interest to bloggers, travel photographers, social media influencers, scrapbookers and travelers.

Bells Beach is another popular Great Ocean Road destination. This beach is appealing to surfing enthusiasts because the waves are consistently impressive ones. If you have the prowess to surf this beach, you are a talented surfer, indeed.

To experience the most incredible views imaginable, the travel experts at The Road Trip Australia recommend starting your journey in Torquay and driving west. While it is also viable to drive in the opposite direction, the ocean views are slightly less impressive when you do it that way.

2. The Big Lap

The Big Lap is an insanely epic road trip that requires a significant amount of time as well as a sturdy 4-wheel drive vehicle. It encompasses about 15,000 kilometres of open road along Highway One, which joins many of Australia’s most significant cities: Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, Esperance, Perth, Broome, Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney.

This road trip is simply incredible because it encourages you to experience every type of adventure Australia has to offer. If you want to fully comprehend the majesty and diversity that is Australia, this is the road trip you’ll want to embark on.

3. The Indian Ocean Drive

The Indian Ocean Drive is a road trip that takes you along the coast in Western Australia. Cervantes is the ideal starting point for this relatively quick road trip. Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to stop and see the sights in Cervantes, Jurien Bay, Leeman and several other similar coastal towns.

Cervantes is noteworthy because it is where you’ll find the Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles Desert. North of there is a fascinating destination known as Lake Thetis, where you can hunt for living fossils.

The Indian Ocean Drive is a worthwhile journey at any time of year, but it's best to go between June and October if you have the opportunity to do so; that's when the wildflowers are in bloom.

4. The East Coast of Tasmania

This is without a doubt one of the top road trips that foodies will want to consider taking. This is because of the abundant and delicious seafood available at multiple destinations along the way; there are also numerous places to savor unique Australian wines and flavorful cheeses.

This road trip is also a fantastic choice for birders and wildlife enthusiasts. In particular, avid birders will want to make a point of stopping at Freycinet National Park to look for Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos, Scarlet Robins, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Golden Whistlers and other lovely bird species. There are some excellent walking trails available in this park.

There are heaps of other possibilities for fun Australian road trips you could participate in. These aren't your only possibilities; however, these are 4 of the most interesting and wonderful road trips you could take. Other travelers have consistently enjoyed them, and you are likely to enjoy them, too.
