11 Unique Things to do in and around Glen Rose, Texas

Living in a town of about 3,000 people, there's often little to do. Numerous times, I have searched "things to do near me" or "unique things around me" and came back with no luck. Fortunately, over the years, Glen Rose and the surrounding areas have grown and added new places and activities to enjoy on weekends or holidays. I have compiled a list of unique things to do and activities to try in Glen Rose and the surrounding areas. These are unique finds that I'm hoping you and your family will enjoy.

Axe Throwing

Head out to the old Feed Mill in downtown Glen Rose for some axe throwing games and live music. Sexton's Mill is a unique bar and restaurant that offers a variety of activities. "Axe throwing near me" has become a popular search with the rise of unique activities in which these generations are partaking. While some are worried about the safety of axe throwing (which is entirely understandable!), Sexton's has made some accommodations, such as gates around the axe throwing games, to ensure that bad axe throwing will not result in others getting hurt. Now, a good thing to remember is always to be on guard when someone's throwing because anything could happen!

Horseback Riding

When you're in the hill country of Texas or roaming among the dinosaurs, one of the most unique things to do is go horseback riding. Dinosaur Valley Park Trail Rides offers horseback riding through the park. They have six different choices, but the one with the most available dates and times is the Horseshoe package for children eight years and up. This tour will take you along the scenic trails found in Dinosaur Valley State Park where you will have the chance to glimpse real life dinosaur tracks!

Dance the Night Away

There aren't too many places to dance the night away in a small town, so when you find one, hold on to it for dear life! And we've found that one thing to hold on to! At Rattlesnake Roadhouse, located in Walnut Springs, Texas, locals and visitors can enjoy great food, drinks, live music, and a large dance floor. This place hosts numerous events and has live music every weekend!

Escape Room

Want something challenging? Try some escape room games! Narrow Escape provides four unique rooms full of puzzles and quests to complete. Each team is given 60 minutes to escape. There are hints, but they are limited! This is a great activity for dates, girls' night out, or family outings. These will test your patience, communication, and creativity to solve unique puzzles. This is a unique find that was found just off the highway in Granbury, Texas.

You've surely heard of Painting with a Twist, right? If not, you're all good! Sip and Paint Classes are similar to Painting with a Twist but focus on Dot Mandala Designs. This company gets creative with its painting. You can paint wine bottles, flower pots, wine tumblers, and more! The unique thing about this place is that its location changes quite often. They can be found in towns around Glen Rose and Granbury. There is usually one class a month. Public Sip & Paint Classes are often found at wine bars or distilleries once a month, but don't fear! You can schedule an in-home class for your friends and family!

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a popular attraction among travelers and locals. People love to visit Fossil Rim in Glen Rose to view the wildlife up close and enjoy a day driving through the hill country. BUT! That's not what I'm here to talk about. I want to tell you about two of the unique finds that Fossil Rim offers.

Want to become a photographer and take photography lessons? Look no further! Fossil Rim Wildlife Center offers a photography workshop with a professional photographer who will help you hone your photography skills. Visitors can purchase public workshop tickets or book private photography lessons. This is the perfect place to hone your photography skills!

Want to make your date night special or book a private family tour? Fossil Rim has you covered. Discover the wildlife during the twilight hours with a guided trip through the park. Visitors can book public or private tours to enjoy this experience. To top this off, each tour will end with a campfire and a sweet treat! This makes your time in the hill country amongst wildlife truly memorable.

Revolver Brewing

Revolver Brewing has two locations in Texas: Arlington and Granbury. The brewery in Granbury is open every Saturday, so visitors can enjoy freshly brewed beers and beautiful weather. This brewery offers customers unique beers that are only made at this location, so it's a must-visit. To get the full experience, bring your friends, a picnic, and even your dog to enjoy a good beer on the weekend outside with some games and live music. If you don't want to pack a picnic, don't fear! There is an onsite food truck!

Siloville Climbing Gym

Discover the unique silos located in Hico, Texas! Siloville Climbing Gym offers a range of different courses for beginners and experts alike. They will help teach you safe climbing techniques and make sure you are taken care of during your time there. Visitors will be able to climb both inside and outside of the silos as well as do a zip line. Siloville Climbing Gym is open most Saturdays, so make sure to check that they are open before driving out there!

The Brazos Drive-In

Take a journey back to the late 1950s and enjoy a drive-in movie theater. The Brazos Drive-In movie theater is located in Granbury, Texas. Single-feature shows are displayed every Friday and Saturday evening. The gates open about an hour before the movie starts, so it's best to get there early to get the best seat in the house. This drive-in theater is great because you can load your car up with family and friends and bring lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, and food and drinks to make your evening more enjoyable. If you don't want to bring snacks, there is a snack stand on site that will provide you with your popcorn and soda fill.

Wine Tasting

Wine tasting has become very popular these days. Many people are searching for "wine tasting near me" or "best wineries near me." Look no further! There is a list of wineries available in and around Glen Rose. The local winery is called Bull Lion Ranch Wine Shop. It's only open from Friday to Sunday. But, if you want the best area to go to… head to Granbury Town Square! Around the square, there are numerous wineries and even alcoholic ice cream. Check out D'Vine Wine for sweater wines and wine slushies! They offer wine tasting that even includes wines from the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center! If a little drier is more your style, check out Barons Creek Vineyards! This place even allows calm dogs.
