Why are boobs so great ?

Why do we focus on breasts so much ?

Tits , knockers , bangers , jugs , boobies , breasts , fun bags , what ever you call them . Boobs are every where . You don’t have to look very hard to find advertisements that include an image of a hyper sexualised woman with an ample bust being used to promote some kind of product be it a car , energy drink or Aftershave .

There is no question that sex sells and the majority of advertising is directed towards heterosexual men. It is a know fact that men love breasts and are instinctively attracted to women with large breasts .

There are two main theories behind this 1) procreation - This is due to years of development thanks to evolution where we are still programmed to want to reproduce and ensure the survival of our offspring . Woman with large breasts are seen to be more fertile and usually have wider hips so are less likely to die in child birth and let’s not forget the actual purpose of breasts, to feed babies . This means that women with large breasts are seen as suitable mates for men wanting to procreate as they will be good mother who are able to care for children.

There is some evidence to suggest that if a person was breast fed as a baby they will see boobs and their brain will be wired to release hormones that make him feel happy because as a baby they associated being fed with breasts . Knowing that food came from breast started to condition the human brain to develope a liking of breast . It’s a survival instinct . We need food to survive there for wen need breasts .

Theory aside we now see breasts as more of a sexual organ rather than one used for feeding children . In fact we have gone too far as to depict breast feeding as vulgar , provocative , indecent exposure , innaproporate nudity , and wrong to do in public .

To any sensible person with half an ounce of common sense , feeding a child is a necessity and the fundeental purpose of having breasts . It would be cruel ana inhumane if w baby was crying because it was hungry and a mother refused to breast feed and allow the child to starve to death .

This is an extreme circumstance that I hope never happens especially now we developed alternative feeding for babies who’s mothers may not be able to breast feed due to medical complications. Breast feeding your child is very personal and should be a choice given to every mother . She should not be shamed for doing such a selfless act . As if women don’t have enough to deal with during pregnancy and caring for a new born . But I could go on for days about the inequalities women have to face in our current society ( but I’m not going to in this article ) .

However there are many women who desire large breasts but not for the purpose of feeding a child . Many women opt in for breast enlargement which often means they are unable to breast feed due to the nature of the surgery . But why would you want breasts if you couldn’t use them for their designed purpose ? The answer is usually to attract men . Many women will say its to do with self confidence and making their body more proportionate . But confirming to an idealised unrealistic body image which personified the male fantasy only means that women value what men think of their bodies and that attracting a mate is the most important thing in the world .

To some people this maybe the case and that is a choice they are free to make . But as a feminist I’d like more focus to be on it being an actual choice . There isn’t very much promotion of the alternatives . Many women are shamed for not conforming to this image I’d what a woman should look like ana what a woman should do in life such as having children .

Through personal experience I know that women who closely resemble this idealistic body type are treated better in society . Men are often more friendly and polite towards them as well as more inclined to help or assist them in any way . Women who look like the heteronormative ideal are more likely to be promoted at work , given better seats at the cinema , offered free drinks at a bar , over all society is conditioned to treat these women better .

—————————-

This is because we live in a patriarchal society where what “the man” thinks is best is then ingrained into our psyche through indirect propaganda such as advertising, music videos , tv shows ect. A strict set of idealistic characteristics are intrinsically Communicated so that ordinary people believe that there is only one model of perfectionism that a woman should embody. And anything outside of this rigid form is deemed in perfect and therefore of less value . One of the characteristics of this so-called “ideal woman” is a pair of large firm perky rounded soft breasts of equal shape size and proportion .

You may not realise it but this particular image of femininity is reinforced in several ways . To have these desirable characteristics is something that therefore should be aspirational for all women to obtain in order to please “the man”. As many feminist have discussed , in a Patriarchical system A woman’s soul purpose is to serve , entertain , satisfy , care for and please “the man”. It is subconsciously Programmed into the minds of those living in this type of society that men and women’s roles are strict and confined to specific purposes . These are often based on heteronormative , traditionalist , misogynistic norms . Where a woman is to stay at home cook clean care for children and be nothing but a domestic goddess who also chooses sex appeal and embodies all of the personifications of the male fantasy with a vibrant libido and willingness to submit to her male companions every need .

Can be seen a lot in media the portrayal of a hyper sexualised woman often voluptuous and vivacious but also coy modest and respectable . As the saying goes men often want Their female companion to be “A lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets”. This then means that female sexuality is something that should only be enjoyed or observed in private for the attention and pleasure of “the man”. This then reinforces the idea women should be sexually desirable ascetically In order to have some form of value and obtain purpose to please “the man”. Be it for his sexual gratification , innate assertion of his masculine Heterosexual identity or reinforcing his Dominant macho and egotistical superior status within the hierarchy of other men . If the female companion of a man is seen as traditionally attractive to other men than this increases the man’s social status . This stems back to the idea that women are nothing more than a property of men . A sexualised object for them to look at and enjoy .

This is only one theory as to why we idealise women with large breasts . An alternative Hypothesis still contributes to the intrinsically sexist and heteronormative roles of which men and women play in society but is less so focused on male pleasure and more so on the ability of that man to reproduce and pass on all of the desirable characteristics of both him and his female partner to any Potential offspring. It is a common notion between biologists scientists that we have a overwhelming biological urge to reduce children . With With the hope that the next generation of human beings will be an improvement on the evolutionary scale and therefore progressively Develop the species in a way that increases its chance of survival. Women with large ample breasts are biologically more likely to be effective bearers of healthy children and also more able to produce milk in order to feed their young which is the primary purpose of breasts on all animal species, Including humans . This viewpoint is often Demonstrated by the mating patterns and behaviour of all sorts of creatures. Which in time has come to show that only the strongest and fastest and smartest of the species are able to survive into adult hood and therefore have the opportunity to attract mates ,in order to reproduce. The saying goes “survival of the fittest”.

Survival is the reason why we do most things and not just why we focus on breast so much . And the biological and evolutionary reasons Provide some explanation as to why we see breasts as such an essential characteristic for females to have.
