The impersonator extraordinaire deserves more credit than she already holds.

I know that she has a permanent place in the For You section on TikTok. But look at and listen to the above video. It is stering. It is a pristine piece of political humor that sends home the idea of how the State is overbearing. When it comes to private companies, Trump should play no role except to protect the rights of the individuals associated with those companies with American employees. Sarah nails the spirit and the bluster of the predident in this clip like visual-audio shadow. But the video clearly demonstrates just how clueless the president is on these matters. Sarah displays the witlessness of the leader of the semi-free world. Her videos go viral once they hit the ‘Net. There are tons of videos that might have a reason to be featured in this piece, but I can’t think of anyone more worthy of increased attention than Sarah Cooper.

In a time where the President of the United States has to sanction whether a Chinese service like TikTok (owner ByteDance) can be bought by an American company (Microsoft), it is important to give proper due to someone who openly, fluidly, and simply tears down the incompetent in chief.

No other name but Sarah Cooper as a fighter against Trump’s dimwittedness can come to mind during this COVID-19 catastrophe. With humor and wit, Sarah finds the funny in Mr. Trump’s verbal foibles. No, she hasn’t been overlooked and no she isn’t wanting for followers and likes on the social network. But she has earned the right to be positioned among other comedy greats that mock vicious “leadership” with delicious aplomb.

So she is super successful on the hot ticket app. Does that take away her status as a comedic mastermind who happened upon TikTok with casual abandon? She’s like the cool history teacher that takes shots at the terrible presidents through the centuries. She tears Trump down by displaying a nonchalance and a precision not just in mouthing his words but spot on character projection.

It should not be up to a government administration to state whether any private company should be negotiated between another firm. Sarah addresses this in her latest video (as of this writing at the beginning of August 2020). While not critiquing the cringeworthy words of Trump outright, Sarah delivers on the promise to keep up the funny while confidently trodding the ground of the main topic of the coronavirus. Her ability to see the humor in Trump’s earnest, bizarre, and out-of-touch way of speaking sees Sarah tap directly into how he would look as a bro’ during a business meeting. One example that best shows the president’s weird way of speaking is when Sarah impersonates him saying “medical doctors” as if he has to distinguish in his head the difference between doctors of philosophy and physicians.

Sarah is a TikTok star but she didn’t start out that way. She didn’t even expect herself to have the amount of accomplishments that she has garnered. Yes, she’s been on national broadcasts and late night talk shows but is still not well-established beyond the Internet. Her eyes are still looking in on the party of comedians who are pulling in millions based on their projects. So, she can technically be seen as the scrappy, young runner who is still breathing onto the window into the comedy world store. (She of course she would disinfect from where her nose is pressed up against the glass.) But with her strong presence on TikTok, it’s clear to see that few can deliver on how unofficial, backwards, and oafish President Trump can be.

She employs props and plays other roles like journalists and interviewers who must trudge through the bovine fertilizer that Trump issues. The laughs rack up as I’m sure the checks will for Sarah (apparently not yet, though). She has an enigmatic personality that shines through in all of her impersonations of the president. The ease with which she edits and the perfection of the mannerisms is something spectacular. Her mouth, the flip of her hair, her cool stare all combine to make a wonderful presentation. Some say that she’s the “Trump whisperer.” She’s more. She’s the Trump mirror. Sarah holds up unedited clips of Trump’s vocals and she impeccably shows that she has studied and done all the work necessary to imbue into her performance what leads to laughs.

There’s a seriousness and acidic tone that serves as a subtext to all of this. Sarah seems angry in her work. But that is justified. With all of the nonsense that the president spouts there is room for a bit of quiet rage. What bubbles to the surface is a woman with a mission whether she likes to admit it or not. Better than some well-known stand up acts, Sarah wields the power as a somewhat outsider who has snatched up the TikTok breeze and set her ship sailing.

Her craft has been finely tuned and competes with the heavyweights in the comedy game. What she injects into her characterization of Trump is a just, upright, and indelibly funny way of looking at the leader of the semi-free world.

Some speculate that it is, in part, because of her that Trump wishes to shut down TikTok for millions of Americans. Sarah’s efficient way of dealing with the horrors of people dying of COVID-19 is to bring a twinkle to the eye and a belly laugh to the viewer and listener. And that is key. She knows the seriousness of the content and tries to assuage the pain through her patented schtick. To just watch and listen to the way that Trump struggles to find words, obfuscates, and befuddles is comedy platinum and diamonds. The best part is that to him, it’s all unintentional but to Sarah it’s humor. He’s completely unaware of his inconsistencies and bits of inanity. And she knows it.

So, no, she’s not a diamond in the rough or a struggling but hilarious figure on TikTok. Millions of people know her name and her ability. What is clear is her profound talent to convey how the President of the United States of America is so bumbling and nearly incoherent. She transforms this into pieces of excellence in humor. She might be well-known on the TikTok circuit, but to the mainstream, her name barely registers a blip.

She has not yet declared any major motion picture roles or television shows. She is still trying to prove herself to the big wigs that she is worthy of a contract. She doesn’t seem to be quitting anytime soon. However, if Mr. Trump has his say against ByteDance and their creation, TikTok, then she may be looking at other platforms. Sure, she has Twitter and YouTube accounts (among others) but TikTok made her. The state should not put fetters on creativity. If she were on the presidential ballot, it would be like an episode of Black Mirror. But, given the choices that we currently have, I’d vote for her.
