Christmas is upon us in all its glory. The lights are up. Mariah Carrey has taken over the radio and is singing about all she wants for Christmas. We are mildly addicted to hot beverages and fed up with spam sale emails flooding our inbox. But the undeniable truth is that a) no amount of hot chocolate will ever be enough, and b) as unappealing as overconsumption is, we need to know about the sales to go Christmas shopping. Because what is Christmas without presents?

But what if I told you that you could bypass the wasteful purchases and narrow down on sustainable and timeless gifts this year? We’re talking jewelry. From Y2K style charm bracelets to diamond rings, there are many incredible options to give to the people you love. You can still go with socks for that niece who is too young to comprehend the concept of Christmas, but when it comes to the special people in your life (and this would ideally include yourself) jewelry is both meaningful and valuable, making it the perfect Christmas present.

Here are a few ideas to get you started

1. Pendant

It doesn't have to be a diamond snowman, a platinum snowflake, a ruby embellished candy cane or a gold gingerbread man (even though these Christmas themed options sound incredibly adorable) You can go for any color gemstone of choice. Cruise through the options and try to align your choices of the lucky person who will be blessed with this gift.

2. Anklets

Most young girls have a fantasy of themselves in a cotton dress, running barefoot through tall grasses, wearing a sleek anklet glinting in the sunlight. It’s a specific aesthetic but it’s also widespread. Anklets are super pretty and super fun. Irrespective of what design you pick, you cannot go wrong with anklets.

3. Sleek chains

If you're interested in playing it safe you can never go wrong with a sleek chain of gold, white gold or platinum. In the world of accessories chains epitomize chic modernity. From the red carpet to an office space, no occasion is too big or too small for chains, making them everyday staples. Consequently, this gift will be used well.

4. Brooches

Nothing ties a look together better than a statement brooch. The best part is the insane range of designs to choose from. You can either go with classic styles like a rose made out of gold or create a diamond pizza slice with rubies or pink tourmalines as pepperoni. There are no rules. Let your imagination roam the Arctic and take a picture if you see a red nosed reindeer because that is an exciting idea for a brooch as well.

5. Pearl necklace

Pearl necklaces are good to have around. They are something to clutch at when that uncle makes an uncomfortable comment at the family Christmas party. Jokes aside. Pearls are classy and pearl necklaces have generated their own aesthetic over time. They make you feel like a 16th century Heiress getting her portrait done. Pearls also go incredibly well with the reds whites and greens worn during Christmas.

6. Charm bracelet

Charm bracelets are simply dreamy. A tiny tiara. A tiny cupcake! A tiny Unicorn?! It’s an unending buffet of all you can have insignias. Their favourite book. Their favourite fruit. An evil eye or their pet’s little face? The cuteness overload is almost dizzying. If you don't want to customize the charms, there are plenty of readymade options available as well.

7. Gemstone rings

We are inching back towards a safer option with gemstone rings. There is nothing like a big shiny rock to make anyone’s day, but a big shiny rock during the already immensely glitzy season is a Christmas miracle! A three stone ring will further reflect the Christmas spirit with their delightful reference to the “three kings, bearing gifts”.

8. Custom jewels

You don't have to be a designer to create your own jewelry. There are several avenues which curate a variety of options from style, color, cut and type of metal and/or gemstone.

There are two major advantages of customizing your own jewelry.

1. Since you are calling the shots you can make a purchase within your budget while also getting exactly what you want.

2. It adds a personal touch, making the gift all the more meaningful.

You could pick a ring, bracelet or an anklet and have it embossed with a quote from your wedding vows or “The Office”, Dealer’s choice.
