Hell In A Cell is an annual event put on by World Wrestling Entertainment. It’s looked forward to by wrestling fans because of its storied history and potential for “brutality.”

The likes of Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, HHH, The Rock, John Cena, Batista, Kane, and Mick Foley have proven their metal as sports entertainers and athletes inside the confines of the twenty-foot high steel cage. There’s been bravado inside of the cage from some of the future greats and sure-fire hall of famers. Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, Edge, and even Vince Mcmahon have tested their performing capabilities inside the demonic structure.

At the 2022 Hell In A Cell, there was one thing that people who watch wrestling will forever remember, and those that don’t understand wrestling will find it impossible to believe.

Seth Rollins is a WWE mainstay and multiple-time world champion. He’s one of the best of our current generation. At Wrestlemania, Seth took on the returning Cody Rhodes, The American Nightmare. This started a series that continued at Wrestlemania Backlash, where Cody went 2–0 against the talented Rollins and was scheduled to continue at Hell In A Cell as a cell match.

As we got closer to the event the word went around the internet that Cody Rhodes was hurt and it was questionable whether he would perform. An event in Champaign, Illinois, on Saturday night, saw Drew McIntyre replace Rhodes in a scheduled match.

Before the match, it was announced that The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, had suffered a torn pectoral muscle, tearing it off the bone.

What fans were treated to was a classic match that fulfilled all of the prerequisites for an encounter inside the cell. There were tables, kendo sticks, sledgehammers, a bull rope, and the scene that unfolded at the start of the match that left a capacity crowd in awe as well as those of us watching from home.

In what might be the bravest example of commitment to his fans, Cody Rhodes reported for one of the most dangerous matches in sports entertainment with an injury that was both gruesome and obviously real. The swelling in his chest and upper arm made it obvious this wasn’t a “work” or some sort of makeup magic. Rhodes was legitimately hurt and the injury was the worst of its’ kind I’ve ever seen.

Typically this injury would put a performer or athlete with Rhodes abilities on the shelf for two to three months, minimum. The last time we were treated for this kind of injury was when Triple H suffered the same injury and he was gone from November until February.

Professional wrestlers get hurt, sometimes seriously. This is without a doubt the worst injury I’ve seen a wrestler go into a match with. What makes Rhodes all the more impressive as a professional wrestling sports figure, is that he started it this way and carried on the match for nearly 30 minutes of what can only be described as a slugfest. During the match it was obvious he was in a great amount of pain as he took hit after hit and his opponent targeted the injury. Most of the moves involved in a match like this are high-impact and fast action was the name of the game between these two perfectly matched performers.

Hell In A Cell Matches is known for its history. Mick Foley being thrown not only off but then later thru the top of the cage down to the mat is one of those and it was nearly 30 years ago. These matches occasionally make history and tonight, Cody Rhodes made history entering this match and winning it as a near one-armed man in a hell of a fight.

When it comes to comebacks, there’s nobody more committed to what he wants to achieve than a guy who will not only play injured but play injured at such a high level.

Imagine what we could all do if we were that committed.
