Tarheels hold off Wake, Carter leads Bulldogs, Winters leads NCAT, Arizona still unbeaten

North Carolina 77 - Wake Forest 74

The Tar Heels (7-2) outscored Wake Forest (4-3) 9-6 in overtime to defeat its ACC rival. Senior center Janelle Bailey, who had a 25-point performance the previous game against Syracuse, posted 19 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Wake Forest. Through nine games she is shooting a career best 56 percent while posting strong averages of 14.2 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Guard Alyssa Utsby connected on seven-of-11 shots for UNC. She posted 15 points. North Carolina also got a double-double off of the bench from Kennedy Todd-Williams. The hard working 5-11 freshman guard posted 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Wake Forest was led in scoring by guard Jewel Spear. She had 22 points, followed by guard Alexandria Scruggs' 16-point effort.

Arizona 77 - Utah 60

The sixth ranked Arizona Wildcats (6-0) remained undefeated in a win at Utah (2-4) on Sunday. Arizona guard Aari McDonald who averages 21.7 points per game led Arizona with 19 points. That performance broke her three-game streak with at least 22 points. She hasn't scored less that 17 points in a game this season.

Against Utah, McDonald collected six rebounds, six assists and six steals. She also had an unfortunate six turnovers which was a season high. Arizona also got 11 points each from forwards Cate Reese and Sam Thomas. The two players combined to shoot 9-15 during the win.

Utah reserve junior forward Niyah Becker led her squad with a season high 13 points. The Utes also got a strong game from Peyton McFarland. The 6-4 freshman forward had her the first double-double of her career with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Mississippi State 72 - Central Arkansas 49

Mississippi State (5-1) forward Jessika Carter had her best game of the season, posting 29 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. She also made 12-of-16 shot attempts. Carter averages 17.3 points and 8.3 rebounds so far this season.

The Bulldogs are usually led by forward Rickea Jackson but the talented sophomore forward struggled with two-of-twelve shooting and a season low total of seven points. It was her first game with less than 15 points this season.

The Bulldogs defense held Central Arkansas (2-6) back with a 19-4 second quarter. Mississippi State led 41-14 at the half.

Georgia State 74 - Western Carolina 61

Taylor Hosendove's double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds led Georgia State to a 13-point win over Western Carolina. The Panthers power forward tallied her third double-double of the season while shooting at least 50 percent for the fifth straight game.

Tehya Lyons scored 10 points for Georgia State while snatching a game high three steals. Lyons scored double figures for the third time this season. She leads Georgia State. All but one of Georgia State's 11 players scored. The Panthers we very balanced in scoring as six players scored at least eight points and nobody had more than 11. Sophomore forward Hannah Sadler had nine points on a season best 75 percent shooting clip.

Guard Kyla Allison led Western Carolina with 24 points. The Catamounts also got a season high 14 rebounds from reserve guard/forward Nadia Marshall.

North Carolina A&T 80 - Elon 64

Senior forward Deja Winters scored 25 points off of the bench to lead North Carolina A&T (1-1) to victory. Winters first game of the season was a four-point performance in a loss to Greensboro. She shot 2-10, including 0-5 from three.

Against Elon, Winters drastically turned things around with 25 points on eight-of-12 shooting overall. She also knocked down seven-of-10 threes. The Aggies received 12 points in the win from starting guard D'Mya Tucker who shot 4-6. Another senior reserve, Chanin Scott posted a team best nine rebounds to go with seven points, three assists and two steals.

Elon (4-2) was led in scoring by both center Evonna McGill and Brie Perpignan who pitched in 13 points each.
