DePaul got them buckets, Fair still got it!

Buffalo 80 - James Madison 64

Dyaisha Fair continued her high scoring ways in Buffalo's season opener. The 5-5, Rochester, New York native who averaged 21.3 points as a freshman, posted 29 points in her team's win against James Madison.

Fair flirted with a triple-double with nine assists and seven rebounds. Her backcourt mate Hanna Hall hit eight three-pointers to score 24 points. Buffalo shot 41 percent from three as a team, burying 13-of-31 attempts. James Madison struggled from three, making only 2-of-19 for 10 percent.

Buffalo was led in rebounding by junior forward Keowa Walters who collected 12 rebounds. James Madison had a double digit rebounder as Peyton McDaniel grabbed 10. The Dukes were led in scoring by KiKi Jefferson's 16 points and Jamia Hazell's 14.

La Tech 79 - Grambling 69

Grambling has never defeated La Tech in all of its six meetings. For one quarter however, Grambling looked to be on the way to making history. The Lady Tigers were up 22-19 after the first quarter ended.

La Tech started the game with a 9-0 lead but Grambling went on a 15-6 run to tie things up (15-15) after London Camryn made a free-throw with 2:44 left in the opening quarter. Grambling took its first lead at 20-19 behind an Alexus Holt three-pointer with 2:01 to play in the first.

The two teams battled back and forth over the next two quarters as La Tech led 59-58 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter belonged the home team as the Lady Techsters outscored Grambling 21-10.

Junior guard Keiunna Walker led La Tech with 17 points. Senior guards Raizel Guinto and Amber Dixon had 15 and 14 respectively. Holt led Grambling with 17 points.

Clemson 80 - UNC-Charlotte 73

Clemson improved to 3-0 after a test against host Charlotte (0-2).

Guard Delicia Washington hit 11-0f-17 shots on her way to 27 points. The senior also grabbed eight rebounds and one steal. The 27-point effort was her best performance of the season as she'd had a combined 22 points in Clemson's first two games. Washington also led her team with six assists and shared the team lead with center Tylar Bennett who had eight rebounds.

In a game with 10 ties and nine lead changes, Clemson won by outshooting its opponent 50 percent to 42 percent. Bennett helped with that percentage going 6-9, scoring 12 points. Guard Kendall Spray hit three-of-eight three-point attempts and all four of her free-throws, finishing the game with 15 points.

Charlotte was led by senior guard Octavia Jett-Wilson's 17 points and eight rebounds. Center Jazmine Harris had 10 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

DePaul 128 - Chicago State 66

After losing a close one to Texas A&M, DePaul took out its frustrations against crosstown foe Chicago State in a school record setting offensive explosion. The total of 128 points that DePaul scored is the most in the 46 years that the program has existed.

Three Blue Demons put up at least 20 points, led by freshman reserve guard Kendall Holmes' 23 points. The newcomer went scoreless in four minutes in the season opener against Texas A&M. She showed up big against Chicago State making six-of-eight three-pointers.

Junior guards Sonya Morris and Lexi Held scored 21 points each. They combined to shoot 17-27, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out eight assists. Oh, and they also had a combined seven steals.

DePaul shot 60 percent overall, including 63 percent from three where it drained 19-of-30 shots from beyond the arc. The 19 threes are second most in school history. Keep this in mind as well, DePaul did all of this in face masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It isn't mandatory that teams play in face masks.

Chicago State had three double digit scorers led by Nadia Thorman-McKey's 18 points. In her team's first two games she is averaging 18.5 points on 54 percent shooting.
