Love & Basketball: A Valentine Hangover

Kentucky 88 - Florida 80

Rhyne Howard's 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting elevated the Kentucky Wildcats past Florida. The road victory helped Kentucky improve to 15-5 as Florida dropped to 10-9.

Howard also led her team with nine rebounds, missing out on what would have been her third double-double in four games. Howard has scored at least 30 points three times this season. On each of those occasions she shot at least 52 percent from the field. The 6-2 guard paced her team in a third category as she knocked down four-of-seven three-point shots.

The Kentucky guards were busy as Chasity Patterson played her usual brand of pesky defense. She had three steals to go along with 13 points. Jazmine Massengill had a productive night with 10 assists, nine points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Forward KeKe McKinney gave Kentucky 13 points on six-of-10 shooting.

Florida was led by guard Kiara Smith's 23 points and 10 rebounds.

UNLV 80 - San Diego State 65

The UNLV Rebels got a 22-point effort from guard Nia Johnson in a victory over host San Diego State. Johnson hit four-of-nine threes, while grabbing five rebounds and collecting three steals. Three other Rebels scored double figures in the win. Forward Delaynie Byrne had 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Forward Desi-Rae Young made four-of-six shots to pitch-in with 12 points and nine rebounds. Reserve forward Anna Blount came off the bench to score 11 points in 13 minutes. It was her fourth game with 10 or more points this season.

Guard Mercedes Staples scored 14 points in the loss for San Diego State. She made six-of-11 shots, including a perfect two-of-two from three-point territory.

Stanford 63 - Oregon 61

Stanford freshman Cameron Brink helped to muscle her teammates past a talented Oregon team to improve to 19-2. The visiting Stanford squad got 16 points, nine rebounds, a season best four steals and one block from Brink. Guard Kiana Williams led the Cardinal in scoring with 20 points and five assists. Another Stanford guard, Lexie Hull, scored 13 points, pulled down seven rebounds and swiped three steals in the win.

Oregon's strong forward Nyara Sabally had a rough night. She scored 12 points and hauled in seven boards but made five-of-13 shots with a game high seven turnovers.

Baylor 60 - Texas 35

Valentine's Day was sour for Texas as Baylor sent the Long Horns home with a 25-point loss. Texas' star center Charli Collier who averages 21.3 points per game scored a season low two points on three shot attempts. She also fouled out for the fourth time this season. Collier has scored double figures in all but two games this year. The first was a 92-58 blowout loss to West Virginia where she scored only five points on two shot attempts. She fouled out in that game as well.

Baylor's center Queen Egbo had a busy night with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also had one block and a steal. Baylor had a collective effort in beating down its opponent. NaLyssa Smith led the team with 14 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Guard Moon Ursin got a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Reserve DiJonai Carrington had 13 points and seven rebounds off of the bench. Point guard DiDi Richards had a game high 10 assists with two steals and two points.

Baylor is now 16-2 and Texas is 14-6.

North Carolina 81 - Pitt 72

Senior center Janelle Bailey kept North Carolina over .500 with 22 points as she knocked down 10-of-11 free-throw attempts. Bailey is averaging 14.3 points per game and Sunday's performance was her third game with over 20 points this season. UNC senior guard Stephanie Watts also dropped in 19 points making all six of her free-throws and hitting three-of-six three-pointers. North Carolina also got a strong performance from reserve freshman guard, Kennedy Todd-Williams, who had her third double-double of the year. She posted 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also had four assists and a steal. UNC improved to 10-8, while Pitt dropped to 4-9.

Pitt guard Dayshanette Harris led her squad with seven assists and three steals. She also had 14 points and six rebounds.
