Every spring the baseball season brings optimism to every baseball fan no matter who you cheer for during the regular season. There really is only a handful of teams that really have a legitimate shot of being crowned World Series Champions. Many teams have not tasted the glory, but every season it gives them another chance to live the dream. For fans the dream is real until they see it will not come to pass again and again. Today, I will talk about my beloved Milwaukee Brewers and why they will never taste World Series glory in my lifetime.

I have been watching the Brewers for a long time and it seems every year we are getting further away from the elusive dream, but we as fans always have that dream. Why can't the Brewers win? To be honest there are many reasons the Milwaukee Brewers struggle to win a championship and let's look at a few of those reasons right now.

Big market vs small market has been going on forever and no matter how much baseball tries to even the playing field it's just not possible. Bigger markets have so many advantages over smaller markets and that will continue forever. Money is the biggest advantage and teams use it to lure top talent to their market. Usually, big market teams can get top free agents to sign with them. Small market teams just do not have those kinds of resources to lure top talent to them.

Does it mean it's the end of the world for small markets? No there are many smaller markets doing well in baseball. The key is resigning younger players long-term and being able to build a great farm system. The Tampa Bay Rays have done that and they are always competitive every season. The Milwaukee Brewers are slowly transitioning to that model as well. It will take some time, but when they do they will become more competitive.

Why hasn't Milwaukee been more competitive for a championship in recent years? Milwaukee's farm system has been a work in progress and it takes time to get players and develop them. Milwaukee has been able to build a good starting pitching rotation, but can they keep them in Milwaukee? These pitchers want to make good money and if Milwaukee isn't willing to pay them they will go to where the money happens to be. This will slow down the rebuilding process and take the Brewers even longer to see a World Series.

Will the Brewers make the World Series in my lifetime? Sadly, the answer is probably a resounding no. Players will not come to a franchise who always in rebuilding mode and the Brewers are usually in that mode. Milwaukee has a decent core of players right now, but can't afford to add the pieces they need to compete against the larger markets. Money is tight in Milwaukee and the owner of the Brewers accounts for every dime he is spending. He really can't afford to make a splash in free agency, so do not look for that to happen in the future.

Milwaukee Brewers fans know the best they can hope for is making the playoffs and getting lucky. The way they are constructed right now there is no chance they will ever be favored to win a World Series. Everything would have to go perfectly for them to win it all. Brewers fans understand this and we still cheer for them hoping something will change. Deep down though we know it will not change anytime soon. For most of us we love baseball and the Milwaukee Brewers and for now that's good enough.
