Five More Players to Watch in 2021

We are back again, the second installment of "We Want WNBA." A big shout out to Vocal Media for making the premier feature a "Top Story" on its site. Part two is a little more of the same with five more players to keep an eye out for during the 2021 season.

Napheesa Collier - Forward - Minnesota Lynx

Born: September 23, 1996, Hometown: Jefferson City, Missouri

College: Connecticut

In her second season, Napheesa Collier averaged 16.1 points, nine rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The 6-2, forward also nailed 40.8 percent of her three point shots. She was named All-WNBA and to the All-Defensive team. Collier was third in the league in rebounds per game, seventh with 1.3 blocks per game and 10th in overall total points. Including the post season she tallied eight double-doubles and grabbed a season best 15 rebounds while scoring 22 points in the playoffs against eventual champion Seattle. Collier shot 52.3 percent from the field, improving from the already impressive 49 percent from the 2019 season when she was named Rookie of the Year.

Her top scoring performance in the 2020 season came when she scored 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting in a 30-point win over New York. She scored at least 20 points eight times during the regular season and blocked at least three shots on five occasions.

Satou Sabally - Forward - Dallas Wings

Born: April 25, 1998, Hometown: New York, New York

College: Oregon

Satou Sabally earned All-Rookie honors in 2020. She was ninth in the WNBA with 41 offensive rebounds. The 6-4 strong power forward led the team with 7.8 rebounds and was second in scoring at 13.9 points per game. She scored at least 20 points three times including her career best 28-point effort where she drilled 10-of-13 free-throws and a season high of four three-pointers against Las Vegas. Sabally scored at least 10 points in each of her first five games. In her third contest she showed her worth to the Wings with 23 points and 17 rebounds. She made nine-of-nine free-throws in that game on her way to the second best percentage from the line on the team (87.2). Sabally posted five double-doubles as a rookie.

Alysha Clark - Forward - Washington Mystics

Born: July 7, 1987, Hometown: Denver, Colorado

College: Middle Tennessee State

One of the best three-point shooters in the WNBA, Alysha Clark had her best season since starting her career in 2012. She connected on a career best 52.2 percent of her triples and shot an even better 55.8 overall which was also the top mark of her career. Last season was the first time Clark averaged double figures at 10 points per game. The 5-11, 33-year-old sniper had a four-game stretch from Sept. 6 to Sept. 13 where she made 13-of-16 three-pointers. This will be her first season with Washington after nine with Seattle. She won WNBA championships in 2018 as well as 2020. Clark played a key role in last year's championship scoring 21 points and dishing out six assist during a game two road win in the finals.

Beatrice Mompremier - Forward - Connecticut Sun

Born: August 8, 1995, Hometown: Miami, Florida

College: University of Miami

At 6-4, Beatrice Mompremier was a second round draft pick by the Los Angeles Sparks but was signed by Connecticut after being released. Mompremier got limited minutes but showed flashes during her rookie season. Her most productive game came against Las Vegas when she had 16 rebounds, six points and four blocks in just 20 minutes of action. She had four games with at least two blocks during the regular season. In the playoffs, she had just two games with over 20 minutes of action and blocked three shots in both contests.

Diamond DeShields - Guard - Chicago Sky

Born: March 5, 1995, Hometown: West Palm Beach, Florida

College: Tennessee

A 26-year-old, 6-1 guard, Diamond DeShields is looking to bounce back from an injury riddled season in 2020. She was an All-Rookie performer in 2018 and made All-WNBA as well as the All-Star team in 2019. Her scoring average rose from 14.4 to 16.2 during her first two seasons but sank to 6.8 points per game after competing in just 13 contests in 2020. DeShields best game last season was an 18 minute affair where she hit six-of-eight shots, scoring 14 points in a victory over Connecticut.
