Ole Miss gets 11th straight W

Ole Miss 73, Samford 48

Ole Miss (11-1) got its 11th straight win as Shakira Austin dominated with 20 points and eight rebounds. The 6-5 center shot 8-10 from the free-throw line. She also got three steals with two assists with zero turnovers. It was Austin's second 20-point performance of the season.

Sophomore guard Destiny Salary scored 12 points on 5-6 shooting in her second game with double-digit scoring for the season. Ole Miss' defense was too much for Samford. The Rebels recorded 17 steals. Samford had 24 turnovers and was outrebounded 46-27.

Lashonda Monk led Mississippi with eight assists. She also had four points, three steals and three rebounds.

No. 16 South Florida 62, High Point 46

Elisa Pinzan dropped 10 assists and Dulcy Fankam shot 7-10, scoring 19 points in South Florida's 16-point home win over High Point.

South Florida outscored High Point 15-9 in the fourth quarter to put its opponent away and improve to 8-3. Bethy Mununga returned to the starting lineup and had her best shooting performance of the season. She shot 6-8 from the field, including 2-2 from three. The 6-0 senior forward scored 16 points which was her second highest output of the year. Guard Elena Tsineke shot 4-7 for South Florida to pitch-in with 12 points in the win.

High Point struggled on the boards being outrebounded 39-20. The Panthers also shot a miserable 6-27 from three. South Florida limited its three-point attempts to 10, making four.

Jenson Edwards led High Point with 17 points, knocking down three of her four three-point attempts.

Dec. 16

North Carolina A&T 75, East Carolina 59

After starting 0-6, North Carolina A&T (3-6) has won three games in a row. Shareka McNeill scored a season high 25 points, going 10-16 overall. The 5-5 senior guard canned five of eight three-point attempts. This was just her second double-digit effort of the year. She is averaging 7.7 points in the team's first nine games.

Aggies center Jazmine Harris posted 14 points and six rebounds. Guard D'Mya Tucker also scored 14 points for the winners as well. North Carolina A&T's usual leading scorer Chanin Scott scored just five points but she led the team with 12 rebounds and seven steals.

After trailing 14-11 in the first quarter North Carolina A&T stormed back to outscore the Pirates 25-14 in the second quarter and take a 36-28 lead to the half. Taniyah Thompson led East Carolina with 22 points. It was her fourth time scoring at least 20 points this season.

Coppin State 68, Winthrop 43

Senior guard Aliyah Lawson shot the lights out, making a season high seven triples on 13 attempts on her way to 21 points as Coppin State improved to 6-5. Center Jalynda Salley did damage for Coppin State in the paint. She scored 19 points, grabbed nine boards and blocked three shots.

Coppin State forced 19 turnovers as Winthrop only posted five assists. Lawson led her team with four steals as well. Guard Mossi Staples collected three steals, giving her 11 swipes in the last three games. Freshman Jewel Watkins struggled shooting 1-7 from the field but she grabbed a season high 12 rebounds and stole the ball once to go along with six points.

Norfolk 67, UNC-Wilmington 56

Camille Downs posted 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Norfolk State to an 11-point home win over UNC-Wilmington. She also led the team with four steals as she had been sharp on the defensive end over the past three games. In the first seven contests she collected nine swipes. In the last three she has tormented the opponents with 14 steals.

Norfolk State also got 18 points from guard Deja Francis. She shot 8-11, scoring double figures for the first time in four games.
