Florida Guts It Out

Dec. 8

Florida 60, Dayton 57

Florida (8-3) took care of the ball and forced Dayton (6-3) to make more mistakes in ball handling as the Gators won a close contest at home.

Dayton had 16 turnovers and nine assists. Florida had 16 assists and nine turnovers in the game that was decided by three points. Dayton also made 11 of its 15 free-throws, while Dayton shot 7-13 from the line.

Lavender Briggs paced Florida with 18 points, on 8-17 shooting. She had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. The 6-1 junior guard has scored at least 15 points in all of her last three contests. Florida guard Kiara Smith almost had a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Dayton was led in scoring by Makira Cook's 20 points.

Syracuse 85, Cornell 55

Teisha Hyman led Syracuse (6-4) with six assists to go along with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals as her team beat visiting Cornell (4-6) by 30 points. Hyman, a 5-8 junior guard has compiled 27 assists and just five turnovers over the past three games. She recorded a season high 15 assists in a 116-65 win over Central Connecticut on Dec. 5.

Syracuse was led in scoring by guard Naje Murray who had 18 points. She made four of her 11 three-point attempts. Forward Alaysia Styles shot 7-10 on her way of 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Cornell was led by Theresa Grace Mbanefo's double-double. The forward had 12 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.

La Salle 77, Maryland Eastern Shore 70

Guard Kayla Spruill scored 23 points, while shooting 8-11 overall and 4-4 from the free-throw line as La Salle improved to 6-3.

The home team ended the first quarter with a 23-11 lead and survived a second quarter comeback by Maryland Eastern Shore which outscored La Salle 19-12. Spruill also led her team in rebounds with seven. Guard Claire Jacobs led La Salle with eight assists, while scoring 17 points. Guard Molly Masciantonio led the Explorers with seven steals. She had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds, with just one turnover.

Taylor Claybourne came off of the bench to lead Maryland Eastern Shore with 18 points, while shooting 7-11.

Dec. 7

SMU 61, Delaware 55

Forward Savannah Wilkinson posted a double-double with 15 rebounds and 14 points, while leading the SMU (4-5) Mustangs to a win over Delaware (6-3). Host SMU trailed 24-22 at the half before outscoring Delaware 39-31 in the second half.

Delaware's star scorer Jasmine Dickey had a rough night shooting 3-12 with seven points. Dickey has scored at least 23 points in all but two of the nine games that she has played. Despite the off night she still nearly had a triple-double posting nine rebounds and a season high seven assists without a single turnover.

SMU got 17 points each from starting guard Sydne Wiggins and reserve guard Kayla White. Delaware was led in scoring and rebounding by Ty Battle, who had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Pitt 67, Coppin State 51

Pitt (8-2) held a narrow 26-24 lead at the half against visiting and shorthanded Coppin State (4-4). The Panthers used an 18-8 run in the fourth quarter to outlast Coppin State who played just six players, Tuesday night.

Forward Amber Brown scored 20 points for Pitt on 7-11 shooting. Liatu King grabbed a game high 15 rebounds and reserve Dayshanette Harris came off of the bench to score nine points with a team high four assists, three rebounds and just one turnover.

Coppin State struggled shooting 15-64 overall. Jaia Alexander led the Eagles with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jalynda Salley had 10 boards for Coppin State.
