Ohio Dominican 79, West Liberty 68

Behind 31 points scored by Gabby Stare, Ohio Dominican earned its first win of the year, improving to 1-1. The game was very tight until the final two minutes when Ohio Dominican pulled away from West Liberty (1-2), a team that previously split an overtime and double-overtime game.

While Stare, a junior guard, led the way in scoring, freshman Trinity Ramos also played an important role with her speed and passionate play.

"We really turned up the pressure and did all the little things and all the hustle plays," Ramos said. "We played together. We all would huddle. We would all talk together and make sure we were together as a unit. It was a great team win."

Ramos, a 5-5 point guard from Reynoldsburg, Ohio made five of her seven shot attempts including 1-2 from three. She scored 14 points along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Her quickness and ability to penetrate hard and fast through the defense caused problems for West Liberty.

"I love playing fast [laughs]," Ramos said. "I literally love playing fast. It makes it so much more fun. We're a team full of guards. We don't have that much height so we love to push the ball up the court. That's our goal in the game, to be the aggressor."

While she looked to be in control, Ramos admmitted that there are parts of the game that she is still getting adjusted to on the collegiate level. "The speed of it for sure is a lot faster.," she said. "It's definitely a lot faster than it was in high school and the shot clock was a huge adjustment too."

Her fiery personality shows on the court and even though that is a pro to her game she said that keeping calm is important to her contribution to the team's success.

"Composure," Ramos said. "I'm still working on it. That's one of the things I'm learning. Just putting trust in my teammates and myself. "

As for her and the team's expectations at the end of the season, Ohio Dominican has high hopes that it believes are attainable.

"I think we're very capable of winning conference," Ramos said. "I can't picture us losing because I don't like losing. I don't like losing and my teammates don't like losing. Our mentality is we're going to win every game that we play ... I'm very competitive. I don't like losing anything. Not even the drills in practice."

Toledo 74, Cincinnati 71 OT

Toledo was outshot 39.7 percent to 44.8 percent, but 18 Cincinnati turnovers did a lot of damage as Toledo improved to 3-0 on the road. Toledo's Quinesha Lockett scored 19 points to lead the Rockets, while her teammate Sammi Mikonowicz posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Cincinnati had high scoring nights from Mya Jackson (24) and Jillian Hayes (21). Both players combined for 18-33 shooting from the field.

Toledo's next match will be at home against Duke. The Rockets defeated the Blue Devils 22 years ago in Toledo.
