National Players of the Week
Feb. 13 - Feb. 19
Angel Reese - Maryland
Angel Reese led Maryland to a couple of victories last week as the Terrapins are currently on an eight-game win streak. On Valentine's Day she scored 25 points with 13 rebounds in an 81-69 win over Iowa. Reese shot 9-15 from the field, while stealing the ball twice and blocking two shots as well. On Feb. 17, Reese helped Maryland defeat Ohio State 77-72. Maryland's most recent loss was at Ohio State on Jan. 20. Last week, Reese guided her team to a win against the Buckeyes with 21 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots. She made a season high nine free-throws on 10 attempts. Maryland is now 20-6 and Reese is averaging 17.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
Ioanna Krimili - San Francisco
San Francisco sharpshooting guard caught fire last week. She scored a season's best 38 points in an 80-72 win over Portland, Feb. 17. The junior made 13 of her 16 free-throw attempts while dishing out dive assists in that contest. Two days later she knocked down four of nine three-point attempts, shooting a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe on her way to 28 points in a 74-66 win over Pepperdine. In that win Krimili had six rebounds, five assists and one steals.
Anastasiia Boldyreva - Middle Tennessee
A 6-6 Russian center, Anastasiia Boldyreva played a pivotal role in three wins for Middle Tennessee last week. On Feb. 13, in a 46-45 win over Charlotte, Boldyreva scored 22 points with six rebounds and three blocked shots. On Feb. 17 the freshman scored 21 points with seven rebounds and five blocked shots in a 63-49 win over Florida International. Those two performances marked the first time in her collegiate career that Boldyreva scored over 20 points. She shot a combined 20-28 in both contests. On Saturday she cooled off scoring just four points but she still collected six rebounds and two blocks in a 72-49 win over Florida Atlantic. Middle Tennessee is now 19-5 and on a three game win streak.
Khayla Pointer - LSU
Senior Khayla Pointer is having her best season of her collegiate career. The 5-7 guard is averaging career highs of 19.3 points, six rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. She is also shooting a career best 40 percent from three-point land. Last week Pointer shot a combined 5-10 from three and 14-16 from the free-throw line in two road wins against Texas A&M and Mississippi State. On Feb. 13 in a 75-58 win over Texas A&M she scored 25 points with three assists and two steals. Four days later Pointer poured in 18 points with four assists and four rebounds to help LSU improve to 22-4.
Dre'Una Edwards - Kentucky
Junior forward Dre'Una Edwards put together her best three-game stretch of the season last week posting over 20 points in each contest. In a 67-63 win at Alabama, Edwards scored 24 points with seven rebounds and three steals. On Feb. 15 in an 81-74 win over Mississippi State, Edwards scored 23 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Edwards shots combined 12-12 from the free-throw line in both wins. In her third game of the week she posted 20 points and seven rebounds in a 69-65 win over Vanderbilt, Feb. 17.
Destinee Wells - Belmont
Destinee Wells shot a combined 13-24 in two wins last week for Belmont. The 5-6 sophomore guard scored 22 points in a 77-46 win over Eastern Illinois, Feb. 17. She followed that performance with 16 points and six rebounds in an 88-50 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville. In both games Wells took care of the ball posting a combined eight assists with just two turnovers. Belmont improved to 18-7 after the win on Feb. 17.
