Trask in the Glory

Kyle Trask and his road to success

Kyle Trask is no stranger to being in someone's shadow, he's been in a few different quarterback's shadows. From D'Eriq King at Manvel high school, to Felipe Franks with the Gators. Trask would enter into games for Manvel after they would get up early and get an opportunity to play. Trask's problem at Manvel wasn't his ability, his head coach even refered to Trask as QB1B, while King was QB1A. King was just a better fit for Manvel's spread offense with his running ability and Trask was more of a pocket passer. Trask and King pushed each other every day while in highschool and while King gained all the "critical acclaim" Trask still got his opportunities to prove his worth in games, throwing 16 Touchdowns to 0 interceptions.

Trask ended up commiting to Florida, his only FBS offer. He was a member of the 2017 team as a Freshman buried on the QB depth chart behind Luke Del Rio, transfer Malik Zaire and Felipe Franks. Franks earned the starting job during Trask's freshman season, and placed Trask in familiar territory heading into his Sophomore year. While he was making the attempt to take over the starting job, he injured his foot in practice the week after the Missouri game. Franks began to make strides in Dan Mullen's offense and solidified himself as Mullen's starter going into their Junior seasons. Fast-forward to Florida's game against Kentucky, September 14 2019, Franks injures his right leg and is carted off the field. With the Gators down 21-10, Trask comes into the game and leads them on 3 scoring drives in the 4th quarter to win 29-21 and never looks back. Felipe transferred to Arkansas and Trask took over at Florida for his Senior season.

2020 has been an interesting season for all those involved this year. Trask has reached 31 touchdown passes through 7 games, and has done it all against SEC opponents. Joe Burrow took 8 games to reach 30, and that was with opponents like Northwesetern State, Georgia Southern, and Utah State. Some will argue, well Joe was taken out of those games in the second half, and while that may be true, Trask still reached 31 Touchdown passes in less games, and with less passing attempts 241 to 260. The Gators hit a bump in the road with their loss to an impressive Texas A&M team, but if the Gators and Trask can keep it together for these last 3 games, before a date with Alabama in Atlanta, Trask should be holding the Heisman trophy at the end of the regular season.

Trask isn't worried about the Heisman trophy, he's more concerned with the teams success. He knows that the personal accolades will come as the teams success grows, and an SEC title would all but do it for him. Winning the SEC would not only most likely get him the Heisman trophy, but would all but put the Gators as a likely contender for the College Football Playoff. Kyle is looking to "Trask in the glory" of a College Football Championship, and if a Heisman comes with it, he probably wouldn't mind.
