Lakota East has one of the best track and field programs in the state of Ohio. Here's a look at the Thunderhawks 2019-2020 season.

When you talk about Lakota East track and field the conversation starts with senior Serena Clark. The dominant sprinter is headed to Clemson for her collegiate career. During her final year in high school, Clark recorded the third fastest 60-meter dash time in the nation among high school girls at 7.47. That time made her the indoor state champion in that event for the first time in her accomplished career.

During the race, Clark finshed ahead of two potential future state champs juniors, Mentor's Paige Floriea (7.61) and Bedford's Kaira Granger (7.63).

Clark also successfully defended her 200-meter dash indoor championship finishing in 24.31 seconds, which was the seventh best time in the country during the 2019-20 season. Floriea (24.93) and Granger (25.18) were also second and third respectively in that race as well.

Sophomore Azariyah Bryant is another talented prospect who had strong season. Bryant started the season by recording the top 55-meter dash time in the state at 7.35, when she competed in the VA Showcase at Liberty University. Prior to that meet Bryant competed at the Ohio State University Buckeye High School Qualifier #1. She claimed wins in the 200-meter dash (26.09) and long jump (18-feet, four and 1/4 inches).

Her top peformance of the season in long jump came at the Music City High School Indoor Invitational where she jumped a career best 18-feet, 11 and 1/2 inches. That jump was the 16th best in the nation during the season.

Bryant qualified for the state indoor championship meet and placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 7.73

Camiyah James is one of Ohio's top jumpers. The junior qualified for both the long and triple jump finals at this year's state indoor championship meet. James placed third and seventh in those events respectively. Her triple jump of 35-feet, two inches was the sixth best mark out of all high school competitors in Ohio. She accomplished that jump at the UK High School Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.

As Clark heads off to college, Bryant and James look to continue the tradition that Lakota East has established. Clark won individual state titles in the outdoor 200-meter dash as well as the indoor 200-meters race in 2019.

James and Bryant ensure that the 2020-21 season will be bright for Lakota East. Along with being amazing jumpers, both young ladies are great relay participants as well. During the 2019 outdoor season, they along with then junior Dawn Hilton and senior Danni Stoughton were regional champs in the 800-meter relay. The foursome were runner-up at the state meet before finishing 15 out of 54 teams at the New Balance Nationals meet.

In 2019, Bryant, then a freshman, was the regional long jump champion before placing third during the outdoor state championships. James was third durng the regional meet and fourth at the state championship. Other athletes who are expected to make noise for the Thunderhawks are Kelsi Harris and Carly Spletzer. Both athletes are mid-distance runners who should be among the best in their region.

Footage of Bryant, James and Clark from their performance at 2019 outdoor state championship meet can be seen on the Track Stars App which is available for free for iPhone and Andriod users.
