Rise of the Woman: Marsh, Shelby look to jump Bulldogs back to NCAA championship meet

Yes it is early, but we are kicking off the "Track & Field 2k22" season. The theme of the season is "Rise of the Woman." The meaning of the theme is that it is simply time. It is time for women's sports to have a serious space in the minds of sports fans. We are not comparing women's sports to men's sports. Women's sports are unique and show everyone that times are progressing and anything is possible.

The Georgia Bulldogs placed fifth at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships after finishing third at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Destiny Jackson returns as the top sprinter for Georgia. She ran her top career times of 11.93 in the 100 meters and 23.88 in the 200 meters during the preliminary rounds of the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. During the indoor season she collected 60 meters and 200 meters wins at the Clemson Invite. During the outdoor season she was a member of the 1,600-meter relay squad that won at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial.

Anna Marian Block looks to make noise in the SEC as a competitor in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. She qualified for the 800 meters final in the SEC outdoor and indoor meets placing eighth both times. She earned 1,500 meter wins at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. Those were the first two outdoor 1,500 meters wins of her career. During the indoor season she won at the Music City Challenge which was her first career open victory.

Senior Imani Carothers is the top returning hurdler. She ran her top career time during the prelim round of the SEC outdoor meet with a time of 13.14 in the 100-meter hurdles. She had two runner-up finishes at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial and Spec Towns Invitational. She placed third at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. She is also a long jumper, recording a runner-up result at the Carolina Indoor Open.

Shelby Tyler was one of the top high jumpers in the nation, placing fifth at the NCAA Track & Field Championships with a career best jump of 1.84. She earned outdoor wins at the Torrin Lawrence Memoria and the Spec Towns Invitational. During the indoor season she qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the high jump where she placed 13th. She took indoor wins at the Carolina Challenge and Carolina Indoor Open.

Titiana Marsh of Chester, Virginia is one of the best long and triple jump competitors in the NCAA. During the outdoor season she placed fourth in the long jump at the SEC meet before placing fourth at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round. She also was eighth in the triple jump at the East Preliminary Round in the triple jump, which allowed her to qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships for both events. She qualified for both events at the NCAA indoor meet after medaling with a third place finish in the long jump at the SEC indoor championship. She also placed sixth at that meet in the triple jump event.

Redshirt sophomore Mia Anderson is the top returning thrower for Georgia. The Buford, Georgia native, was runner-up in the shotput at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial. She also placed third in the shot put at the Spec Towns Invitational.
