Three Week 3 Quarterbacks to Draft in DraftKings

(And One to Avoid)

You probably made good money last week if you went with Drew Brees or Jared Goff and avoided Tom Brady; however, Tyrod Taylor was also a flop. Sorry about that one, but early season returns on adjustments is necessary in DraftKings if you want to stay on top and winning money.

Starting off every week at the top of the pecking order is the signal-caller, the head honcho, the Quarterback. Every Wednesday, we look at three quarterbacks in the $6,000 range with the best likely return on investments. These quarterbacks are playing fringe defenses and are expected to put up a lot of points in their respective shootouts. Betting on these QBs is a safe bet for week three.

1. Jimmy Garoppolo ($6,500) @KC

Garoppolo completed 18 of 26 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns, settling into his role as the new 49er QB and playing against a weak Lions defense. This week, Jimmy G plays the worst defense in the league in Kansas City. The Chiefs defense isn't as bad as they appear on paper, they've been in back-to-back shootouts led by phenom QB Patrick Mahommes that have spiked the numbers in not the defenses favor. However, this week calls for another shootout as Jimmy gets more settled and more confident in the 49er offense, expect his numbers to rise as well. A somewhat expensive play here but if the final predicted score is any indication, Garoppolo is worth the spend.

2. Drew Brees ($6,400) @ATL

Brees completed 28 of 35 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns against what was a surprisingly stout Browns defense. Easy-Brees-y still got it done and its a beautiful thing. Brees is currently on pace for 5,500 yards and a 40 touchdown season, probability says those numbers are unsustainable but an arsenal of weapons threatening every aspect of opposing defenses week in and week out makes him more ought to than naught. Drew Brees has so many options, it's not even funny and a visit to Atlanta against a surging Matty Ice and a flailing Falcons defense sets the stage for another NFC South shootout. Expect Brees' numbers to hold in an all too familiar visit to their division rival. Brees is an incredibly smart play, albeit above salary. Ride Brees for however long this hot streak is.

3. Cam Newton ($6,000) vs. CIN

Newton completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Since losing elite tight end Greg Olsen, Newton hasn't missed a step, spreading the ball around heavily to his new array of receiving options. Newton had a weak receiving corps to begin with as Panther management went quantity over quality this season and that was before they lost Olsen. The upside for Newton is his prolific pass attempt numbers show he's a HUGE part, if not the focal part, of this whole offense. The Panthers offense relies heavily on Newton to move the ball, which translates into good things for return numbers. A middling to weak Bengals defense is coming to town this week, so expect Andy Dalton and Newton to get involved in another shootout.

Quarterback To Avoid

1. Tom Brady ($6,900) @ DET

Brady completed 24 of 35 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns against the stingy Jaguars defense. Brady was unsurprisingly held to a low output as his lack of receiving options and age is becoming increasingly apparent. So why is Brady in the do not draft spot again, especially with the Pats playing the struggling Lions defense? Because of circumstances. Brady is finally beginning to look mortal and his #1 option this season is Chris Hogan and a struggling Gronk. The Patriots scheme is to protect Brady at all costs and that preservation prohibits Brady from going off like in years past. Brady put up under 300 yards a game in both games so far and with the Lions boasting the 4th ranked passing defense and the 32nd ranked rush defense, expect even more preservation this week as Patriots try to exploit the run game instead. Brady is still someone you want at the helm of your team; but in real life, not in DraftKings. $6,900 is too expensive for what will be a 250-yard performance at best. Pass.

Our editor never published our articles last week on Tight Ends and Defenses; expect that to go through this week along with Five Running Backs tomorrow and Eight Wide Receivers on Friday.
