The Top 5 UFC Fights to Rewatch
The UFC Fights You Must Rewatch
The UFC has been around for almost 30 years. The company has gone through many challenges and trails from the state’s committee, to having the harsh reputation of being human cockfighting. Yet with Zuffa and UFC president Dana White being in charge, they manage to make MMA into a official sport. They change the fights from no time limit to 5 minutes in each 5 rounds, they made safety rules and policies to prevent any long term damage to a fighter, and they made weight classes to stop mismatch between a lightweight fighting a heavyweight. With all these changes, they are many fights from different weight classes that are worth watching for new MMA fans, or rewatching for long time fans. Here’s are the top 5 fights you must watch.
For our first fight, we are going to look at the heavyweight class. There are many big fighters that shows they are the baddest men on the planet. Francis Ngannou vs. Stipe Miocis in their first fight was a crazy fight seeing Francis for the first time get out classes by Stipe in UFC 220. Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin was also nuts, seeing Lesnar survived a brutal onslaught in the first round to defeat Carwin by submission to defend his UFC heavyweight title at UFC 116. There’s so many heavyweight fights to choose, yet the one to take this place is Mark Hunt vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 193. In a show case of heart, brutality, and respect, the two heavyweights gave fans probably the best heavyweight bout to have ever existed. The fight really gets you pumped and in awe of the performance Hunt and Silva delivered. The best moments are in rounds three, four, and five. This is where they both were exhausted, yet they continued on to cause each other to be busted open and continue to fight. It ended in a draw, but it was an amazing heavyweight bout.
For the second fight, we are going to look at the light heavyweight division. These fights really show case how guys are are barely passing 200 lbs can display great speed, strength and power similar to a heavyweight and middleweight. Forrest Griffin vs Stephan Bonnar at the The Ultimate Fighter Season One final was a thrilling bout that saves the UFC. Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 1 was a strong bout seeing Jon in his winning streak possibly finding his match in Alexander. So much to choose with the light heavyweight division, but Dan Henderson vs Shogun Rua at UFC 139 is the greatest light heavyweight fight. The second non title five round bout that made you on the edge of your seat. In one round Dan is dominating Shogun, and then in the next round Shogun is dominating Dan. The two bled and went all out with striking and ground game. The bout ended in a decision win for Dan Henderson, although some consider to be a draw.
For the third fight, we’re going to see the middleweight division. Similar to light heavyweight, middleweight showcased speed and power. We seen great match up like with Israel Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236, or Yoel Romero vs Paulo Costa at UFC 241. Both fights shows how much effort these fighters put forward to get a win using speed, power, and of course heart. Although there are many great middleweight bouts, there’s one that must be rewatch. This bout involves Anderson “The Spider” Silva in his prime as the greatest middleweight in his prime, as it seems nobody could have beat him. From Chris Leben, Dan Henderson, to Forest Griffin, Rich Franklin, and Chael Sonnan. It seems no one can stop him. Enter Chris Weidman. On UFC 162, Weidman knock out Anderson Silva on the second round, which seeing in now gives chills to viewers seeing Silva winning streak broken.
For the fourth fight, we are going to check the welterweight division. The welterweight displays great speed, power, skills, and willpower unlike most of the weigh division in the UFC. There are great moments like Jorge “Gamebread” Masvidal knocking out Ben “Funky” Askren on UFC 239, George St-Pierre busting up Josh Koscheck on UFC 124, Tyron Woodley knocking out Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, and Matt Hughes beating Frank Riggs in a memorable comeback moment at UFC 52. But there’s still one fight that’s one of the greatest fight in the UFC. That fight is Robbie Lawler vs Rory MacDonald 2 at UFC 189. For almost five rounds, these two fighters strike each other so much that both men were busted up and was covered in blood. Lawler and MacDonald really shows will power and give us a chilling stare down at the end of round 4. In the end, Robbie finished the fight with a TKO win.
And lastly, for the fifth and finally fight, we’re going to look at the lightweight division. Oh boy, where to begin here? So many great fighters on so many great fights, so it was difficult singling out one. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs. Nate Diaz at UFC 141, Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier vs Max Holloway 2 at UFC 236, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor at UFC 229, and so much more. Because of this, it was difficult to choice one to rewatch. But there is one to be recommended for you to rewatch. And that the fight of Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez at The Ultimate Fighter Finale 9. These two went to war the second the fight began, and it continues to be a entertaining bout to watch. Diego out striking Clay for a minute before Clay took him down with ground and pound. It shows how these two put so much effort to try beating each other up. In the end, Diego Sanchez won the bout with a split decision.
