Texas Rangers First Half Check-In

Recapping how the American West team has fared so far this season

By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published 3 months ago • 3 min read

It's been an up and down season for the Texas Rangers as they push for a playoff berth and try to avoid missing the Postseason for the third consecutive season. Before every season, I would share my predictions on how well the Rangers would do. That includes how many wins they would have, as well as how well some players would perform. We're going to check up on the predictions I made earlier this year and see if they're near what I predicted. In case you missed my original story, you can read down below.

Texas Rangers 2026 Predictions | Unbalanced

We're going to start with some of the Rangers acquisitions who joined the team during the offseason to see how they're doing so far.

Brandon Nimmo

Traded from the New York Mets for Marcus Semien during the offseason, the 33-year-old has dealt with injuries during the first half of this season. His stats so far are as follows:

  • 38 runs, 21 doubles, 4 triples, 9 home runs, 34 RBI, 30 walks, and 4 stolen bases (.263 batting average)

He has been a huge contributor to the Rangers offense and looking to add to these stats in the second half.

Danny Jansen

The catcher's stats and Kyle Higashioka's backup during the first half of 2026 are as follows:

  • 11 runs, 6 doubles, triple, 3 home runs, 12 RBI, 13 walks, and stolen base (.171 batting average)

MacKenzie Gore

The catcher, who was traded to the Rangers from the Washington Nationals, has had a rough first half of the 2026 regular season. His record is 5-8 with a 4.63 ERA.

In one of my previous stories, the one slight criticism I had with him and Kumar Rocker was that they both gave up so many runs too early in games. Both have to lessen the damage and be more consistent. Sure, there will be games where they'll have decent performances. However, consistency is always key.

Next, let's go to the predictions that I made before the regular season began. Just a heads up, the stats in parenthesis represents each player's current stats.

Nathan Eovaldi: 12 wins (2026: 9-7, 4.04 ERA)

Jacob deGrom: 10 wins (2026: 7-5, 3.49 ERA)

Corey Seager: 25 home runs (2026: 10 home runs)

Wyatt Langford: 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases (2026: 9 home runs and 6 stolen bases)

85 Wins (2026 1st Half: 49)

Both Eovaldi and deGrom have had their ups and downs during the first half of the season. The offense needs to step up more in the second half of the season, because relying on these two whenever the Rangers are trying to avoid a series sweep has to lessen. As far as Corey Seager is concerned, his days as a Ranger might be numbered, as he's been at the target of trade rumors. I don't want to make any predictions on him until I know for sure if he'll be traded by or after the trade deadline, or at all. I'll keep everyone posted. Going back to Eovaldi and deGrom: their wins are a bit close to where I predicted before the season began. There's a chance that these two won't be part of any American League Cy Young award conversations, given their ERA's. However, I would like for them to see those lowered to at least 2.50 or below it by season's end. With Eovaldi being a two-time World Series champion and deGrom a first time World Series champion, they'll need to put up solid performances as the Rangers push to make it to the Postseason for the first time since 2023. Finally, let's talk about Wyatt Langford. In his third season with the team, Langford's numbers are significantly lower than I predicted. Is a 20/20 season doable for him? With nearly two months to go in the regular season, there's a 50/50 chance that he will not reach that goal. If you're unfamiliar of what a 20/20 season is in baseball, it's when a player scores 2o runs and steals 20 bases.

The Rangers are in a great position as the second half nears. They're currently first in the American League West with a record of 49-47, which is a game and a half over the Mariners. Around this time last season, they were under .500. Now, the turnaround looks pretty darn good so far if you ask me.
