Teaser of movie ‘Friendship’ starring Harbhajan Singh gets released

Harbhajan Singh has taken to acting in movies now even as his cricket career continues. The teaser of a movie titled ‘Friendship’ has been released with the former Indian spinner in the lead role. The movie is set to be released in three languages – Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The film also stars Arjun Sarja, Losliya and Satish. It is directed by DM Udhaya Kumar. Wishes have started pouring in for Harbhajan soon after the teaser’s release.

Talking about Harbhajan's acting debut, the Indian cricketer had shared the first look poster of the movie Friendship last year. Directed by Paul Raj and Surya, the movie also features actors Arjun and Bigg Boss Tamil fame Losliya Mariyanesan. Harbhajan's Tamil movie Friendship was earlier in talks for a release in August last year.

A part-time commentator and cricket analyst, Harbhajan parted ways with MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2021. Harbhajan was signed by Shah Rukh Khan co-owned KKR for the next installment of the IPL. Harbhajan had pulled out of the IPL 2020 which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

One of the leading wicket-takers in the history of IPL, Harbhajan was roped in by KKR at his base price of INR 2 crore. “Looking forward to win another Trophy with purple and gold.. thank you for having me.. all you will get from me is 100 percent commitment at all time.. see you all soon #KKRHaiTaiyaar @KKRiders @Eoin16 @iamsrk,” Harbhajan tweeted after joining KKR ahead of IPL 2021.

Friendship was revealed by the production team. He wrote: “Amid the cry of thunder and lightning, here we set foot in the territory of Superstar, Thala, Thalapathy and Ulaganayagan...” (loosely translated from Tamil).

Alongside Harbhajan are his co-actors Arjun Sarja and Bigg Boss Tamil fame Losliya Mariyanesan. A motion poster of the film too was released that shows chemical equations written on a blackboard and the final shot shows Harbhajan with a cricket ball. Friendship is touted to be a campus thriller film.

Directed by John Paul Raj and Sham Surya, Friendship’s motion poster suggests an August 2020 release for the film but with uncertainty over the reopening of theatres due to COVID-19, the release day may yet get postponed. Santha Kumar C has handled the cinematography while music is by DM Udhayakumar. Sham Surya is also the choreographer for the film. Friendship is produced by Seantoa and Cinemaass studios.

Friendship is not the only Tamil film Harbhajan will be seen in. He is also set to play a character in the upcoming Santhanam film, Dikkilona. Another former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan, too is set to make his debut in a Tamil film with the Ajay Gnanamuthu film, Cobra, that stars actor Vikram in the lead.
