Angel Gazaway

After years of struggle and watching teammates and opponents get gold medals hung around their necks, Eastern Michigan's Angel Gazaway pulled off a dazzling showing that resulted in three gold medals at her final Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships meet, last weekend in Akron, Ohio.

Gazaway set a personal best time, winning her first championship in the 100-meter hurdles with a finish of 13.38. She finished ahead of Northern Illinois' Scout Regular, who was a runner-up for the second straight time. Regular also ran a personal best 13.51. Both Gazaway and Regular will also advance to the NCAA Preliminary rounds. Gazaway will head to the East, while Regular will compete in the West as they vie for a chance to qualify for the NCAA championship meet.

"I feel great [and] amazing," said Gazaway after the win. She also said her goal is to run the 100-meter hurdles in 13.2 seconds at the East Preliminary.

Gazaway's final collegiate season has been by far her best. The senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, previously competed in the conference final of the 100-meter hurdles in 2019 and 2022 placing sixth both times. After winning the Mid-American conference gold during indoor season in the 60-meters, Gazaway dominated the conference rankings during outdoor season before finishing the job last weekend. Gazaway also won gold in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.16 and was one fourth of the championship winning 1,600-meter relay with at time of 3:40.97. She teamed with Mair Edwards, Chevonne Wheeler and Noriyah Johnson in the victory.

Gazaway will also appear in the 400-meter hurdles during the East Preliminary as well, which will take place, May 25 and 27.
