Recap of Track & Field in 2022

As the college track and field season has come to a close, we will take time to take a look at women in the sport who competed and made things happen in 2022.

Talitha Diggs - Florida

In 2022, 19-year-old Talitha Diggs stole the show at the USATF Outdoor Championships by winning the 400 meters championship. The Florida sprinter won with a time of 50.22. Two weeks before she won the NCAA championship in the 400 meters with a career best time of 49.99, which is also a school record. Diggs also won the NCAA indoor title in the 400 meters with a finish of 50.98. In 2021 she was second in the 400 meters at the outdoor NCAA meet after taking the bronze at the NCAA Championships during indoor season. The native of Saucon Valley, Pennsylvania is seven-time All-American in just two years of collegiate action.

Jermaisha Arnold - Coastal Carolina

Jermaisha Arnold has had a strong first two years at Coastal Carolina. This season she became one of the top sprinters in the NCAA. At the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, Arnold placed second in the 400 meters and won a gold medal in the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay. She qualified for the NCAA championship meet in the 400 meters and 400-meter relay, where she earned All-American honors and ran a career best time 51.24 in the 400 meters. The 20-year-old from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina competed in the opening and semi-final rounds of the 400 meters at the USATF Outdoor Championships, where she battled for a chance to compete at the World Championships.

Shae Anderson - UCLA

Last year an Olympian, Shae Anderson returned to UCLA to have a championship season. She won a 1,600-meter relay championship at the PAC-12 Track & Field Championships. Anderson also won the silver medal in the 400 meters and two bronze medals in the 200 meters and 400-meter relay. She qualified for the NCAA meet in the 400 meters, 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay. During the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships Anderson ran a career best time of 50.94. In 2021, Anderson, a native of Norco, California, earned a bronze medal at the NCAA Championships in the 1,600-meter relay.

Lillie Franks - Kent State

Kent State's Lillie Franks is a native of London, United Kingdom. She earned a bronze medal in the high jump at this year's Mid-American Indoor Track & Field Championships. She just missed getting a medal with a fourth-place finish during outdoor season. During her first season (2020) she was named Mid-American Conference Field Freshman of the Year during the indoor and outdoor season. Franks won the silver medal in the high jump at the 2020 Mid-American Indoor Track & Field meet. In 2021, Franks won five of the seven meets that she competed in the high jump.

Alivia Ash -Rutgers

Alivia Ash finished her collegiate career at Rutgers. The high jumper posted points for Rutgers with a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships. During outdoor season she qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary where her collegiate career completed. Ash won a silver medal in the high jump at the 2021 Big Ten outdoor meet. Prior to Louisville, the Merrillville, Indiana native won the ACC indoor high jump championship in 2019. During the outdoor she took home the silver medal in the conference and the next season she added to her collection with a bronze medal at the 2020 ACC indoor meet.
