Recap of Track & Field in 2022

As the college track and field season has come to a close, we will take time to take a look at women in the sport who competed and made things happen in 2022.

Asia Jinks - Auburn

Asia Jinks is a talented hurdler who transferred to Auburn after starting her career at Albany. The Uniondale, New York native was decorated champion at her pevious school. She won six America East conference championships over her career in the 60-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 400 meters. This season she stepped into the deep waters of the SEC and held her own. Jinks competed in the final round of the 400-meter hurdles at the SEC Championships, placing eighth, before competing at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Jinks ran her career best time of 56.63 seconds at the quarterfinal of the East Preliminary before qualifying for the NCAA Championships where she competed in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles. Jinks wrapped up her collegiate career at the USATF Outdoor Championships where she competed for a chance to represent the USA at this year's world championships.

Nia Stevens - Campbell

Nia Stevens is a 5-10 sprinter who has competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters over her career. The Buffalo, New York native who attended Tapestry Charter prior to Campbell University, led the Campbells to a bronze medal in the 1,600-meter relay during the 2021 season. This season she competed in just two meets, as she ran the 200 meters. She ran her season's best time of 25.38 seconds during the preliminary round of the Big South Outdoor Championships.

Rieko Wilford - Purdue

This freshman from University Place, Washington, managed to score points with a top seven finish in the triple jump at the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Rieko Wilford scored her top mark of the season at the Miami Hurricane Invitational at 12.79 meters, which was a runner-up finish. She kicked off her career during indoor season with a win at the Gene Edmonds Invitational. Wilford's season ended after qualifying and competing at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Marcia Sey - Ohio State

Marcia Sey is a criminology major at Ohio State who is from London, United Kingdom. She earned her first medal on the collegiate level with a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2021 where she ran a career best time of 8.27. This season Sey ran her top 100-meter hurdles time of the season of 13.32 during the final round of the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She placed fifth helping the Buckeyes win a team championship at the Big Ten meet. Sey qualified for and competed in the 100-meter hurdles at the East Preliminary Round.

Samantha Dyson - New Orleans

Prior to attending New Orleans, Samantha Dyson attended Youngstown State where she won bronze medals in the weight throw and shot put in the 2021 Horizon League Indoor championship meet. She followed that up a gold medal win in the shot put, silver medal performance in the hammer throw and bronze medal effort in the discus throw. This year at New Orleans, the thrower from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania finished third in the weight throw at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. During outdoor she won gold at the conference championship meet in the hammer throw and discus throw.
