Ohio State transfer stays unbeaten in triple jump

Ohio State's Jaimie Robinson remained unbeaten so far during the 2022 outdoor season in the triple jump. The reigning Big Ten indoor triple jump champ earned a win at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by her school, April 22-23.

On day two Robinson won the triple jump with a mark of 12.89. She beat a field of 11 competitors including teammate Cierra Pyles who placed second at 12.75. Alisha St. Louis of Eastern Michigan finished third at 12.35. Robinson has also been victorious in the triple jump at the Gamecock Invitational, Raleigh Relays and Baldy Castillo Invitational where she recorded her best jump of 13.38 which is first in the Big Ten and tied for 14th in the NCAA.

This is Robinson's first season at Ohio State after starting her career at Alabama before transferring to Oregon. During her freshman season at Alabama in 2018 Robinson qualified for and competed at the NCAA championship meet during outdoor season.

Shabangu Wins 200 at South African Championships

Banele Shabangu ran a time of 23.92 to take the gold at the South African Championships in the 200 meters, April 23, in Cape Town. The 19-year-old finished ahead of two 24-year-olds as Tamzin Thomas earned a silver medal at 24.02 and Miranda Coetzee took the bronze at 24.08.

Shabangu won the South African U20 championship last season in the 100 meters, 200 meters and as a member of the 1,600-meter relay.

After winning at the South African Championships, Shabangu posted on Instagram, " Don't wanna lie but we did it. Yes Lord, yet again I'm a champ," as she celebrated her victory.

Hoosiers' Paola Fernandez-Sola Leaps into NCAA Top 10

Indiana's Paola Fernandez-Sola now has the seventh best long jump in the NCAA as she recorded a mark of 6.61 at the Indiana Invitational. Fernandez-Sola won the competition, besting a field of 29 jumpers. Louisville's Synclair Savage was second at 6.44.

Fernandez-Sola is number one in the Big Ten. She is looking to win her first conference championship. During the indoor season she placed fifth at the Big Ten meet. In 2021 she was 10th at the Big Ten outdoor championship meet and sixth at the indoor conference championships.

Yale's Kayley DeLay Takes Steeplechase in Virginia

Kayley DeLay recorded a personal best time in the 3,000-meter steeple chase at 9:44.71 at the Virginia Challenge on April 22. With that performance, DeLay finds herself with the fourth best time in the NCAA. She currently sits behind Courtney Wayment of BYU (9:26.88), New Mexico's Elise Thorner (9:40.98) and Joyce Kimeli of Auburn (9:41.15). In 2019 DeLay was the Ivy League runner-up during outdoor season. She competed in the 5,000 meters at this year's indoor NCAA championship.

Duff, Wade Tops Mid-American Conference Hurdles Rankings

During the indoor season, Mi'Angel Daniels of Kent State and Scout Regular of Northern Illinois placed first and second respectively at the Mid-American Conference Championships meet in the 60-meter hurdles final. During the outdoor season Kent State's Benja Duff ranks first in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.51. Last year's outdoor champ and third place finisher from this year's indoor meet Alysse Wade of Eastern Michigan is now second at 13.64. Daniels is currently tied for second with Angel Gazaway at 13.94, while Regular is third at 13.68.
