This year she won the 400 meters at this year's indoor championships and an outdoor national gold in the 800 meters in 2021.

Gunnarsdottir has won eight national championships, winning her first in 2016. Along with winning gold in the long jump and triple jump, she has also won national crowns in the shot put.

Coastal Carolina's Jefferson wins USA 100 meters

Melissa Jefferson has had an incredible year on the track. The Coastal Carolina sprinter won the 60 meters at the NCAA indoor championship meet in March. After that she was a favorite in the hunt for the 100 meters at the NCAA outdoor meet but fell short finishing eight in the final round.

Jefferson bounced back and ran a career best 10.69 seconds in the 100 meters at the USATF championships, June 24 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Jefferson placed ahead of silver medalist Aleia Hobbs (10.72) who won the 100 meters in 2018 and Twanisha Terry (10.74) who won a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 2018 World U20 Championships.

Jefferson dominated in the Sun Belt Conference during her collegiate season. She won gold medals in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400-meter relay at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. During the indoor season she won the 60 meters and 200 meters finals races at the Sun Belt meet.

Amusan wins Nigerian 100-meter hurdles championship

Tobi Amusan, 25, won her second national championship in the 100-meter hurdles, Jan. 25 at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Nigeria. Amusan blew the competition away at 12.54 seconds, ahead of second place Grace Ayemoba's time 13.69 and third place Stella Ayanleke's finish of 13.85.

Ayemoba's silver medal finish at 40 years old was impressive as she placed ahead of a 21-year-old Ayanleke. Ayemoba won the 100-meter hurdles in 2017.

Amusan competed in college at UTEP where she won the NCAA championship in the 100-meter hurdles to close the 2017 collegiate season. In 2016 she was a second place finisher at the NCAA championships. She competed at last year's Olympic games where she just missed getting a medal with a fourth place finish. Amusan also placed fourth at the World Championships back in 2019.
