Sports inside a bubble

Can it work

Please do not bust the bubble, we need it

Many things came to an end due to COVID, from shows to sports. Sports have a better chance of happening before shows do, but at least we get something. The sports that have started so far are soccer, baseball, basketball, and hockey. From what I’m seeing, European Soccer and the NBA are doing an outstanding job with containing the virus and being able to play sports.

College sports are starting soon with schools switching to conference only games or canceling games all together like the IVY League and the MAC as well with an option to start it in the fall, but the only thing that I do not understand is that if they are canceling sports then why are they making kids go back on campus. When the games start to happen, teams, not including the players, are required to wear mask on the sideline. This rule helps everyone that is on the field because at the end of the day you cannot control anyone else but yourself.

The NBA is currently doing a bubble in Orlando and periodically checking their players for symptoms and not allowing them outside the bubble. Currently they are playing to seed the playoffs and the people are excited with what they are watching.

European soccer is not doing a bubble from my understanding, but with them and the Countries are doing better than the US in containing the virus so as of right now they do not have to be in a bubble.

In the NHL they are also playing in a pre playoff seeding set to see who will be in the Stanley Cup playoff and so far, there hasn’t been an outbreak and we all hope people will be responsible and not cause one.

The MLB is a different story. It took the MLB a while to decide if how many games and when it’ll start, and I believe the 60 game schedule was a good decision. Now so far, the MLB has done a good job just like the MLS and European soccer, but recently with Miami, who is in a badly hit area, having an awful outbreak with 15+ staff and players testing positive and not telling anyone along with St Louis and then with the situation with Toronto not being able to play in Canada. The MLB has been a mess so far and really should switch to a bubble like the MLB somewhere up north in the Northwest US. Let’s be honest, ever since the Astros scandal the MLB has not been the same and never will until they really punish the plays on the team. You have people punished more harsh for throwing a ball at someone than people cheating their way to win a championship.

Bringing it up again, but the bubble seems to be a great solution to everyone’s problem. So the real question is to why every sport and/or league cannot climb aboard to this solution? It cannot be about the money because if everyone keeps getting sick then they will lose more money than if they would to do the bubble.

Take a look at the NFL, players all over are opting about because things are not getting handled the way that they should. For instance, the New England Patriots have had a total of eight player opted out due to concerns and can you blame them.

[Side note] If all runs smooth these are the teams I predict to win their respective sports championship, Boston Celtics, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta United, Ohio State and the Atlanta Braves.
