The Spain Under 21 men’s national football team have continued their fantastic run of good results this autumn, with four wins from four games now in September and October 2021.

Several of their young players have been very impressive and will no doubt be competing for a place in Luis Enrique’s senior squad soon.

Fer Niño, Yeremi Pino, and Sergio Gómez have all scored at least 2 goals each in less than 2 months for the Spanish sub 21 national football side - who as a team have scored 12 goals in just 4 games vs Russia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Northern Ireland.

Despite conceding 3 goals as well, the Spain Under 21 team won all 4 games convincingly in autumn 2021, albeit against sides they were probably expected to beat.

This 100% record follows an already impressive winning streak across recent years.

Spain U21 national football team has now won 80 of a possible 100 matches since 2010

Since and including 2010, the Spain Under-21s national football squad have won 80 games, drawn 13 and lost just 7 from a total of 100 results. That gives them a win percentage of 80%, with 13% draw and 7% loss percentages.

But even more encouragingly, their record has become even better most recently.

Since they suffered a shock 2-1 loss at home to Northern Ireland on the 11th September 2018, Spain U21s have won 23 games from a possible 29 - drawing 4 and losing just 2 against Italy in 2019 and Portugal in 2021.

This record is better than the current Spanish senior national football team, and better than almost any country’s sub 21 side - suggesting that the future upcoming generation of Spain players - perhaps added to their fairly young existing squad - will have a good chance of perhaps becoming the best team in Europe and in the world once again.

What are Spain U21s’ most recent results?

3rd September 2021 - Spain U21 4 - 1 Russia U21 (Almendralejo)

7th September 2021 - Lithuania U21 0 - 2 Spain U21 (Vilnius)

8th October 2021 - Spain U21 3 - 2 Slovakia U21 (Sevilla)

12th October 2021 - Spain U21 3 - 0 Northern Ireland U21 (Sevilla)

What are Spain Under 21s’ fixtures in upcoming months?

Spain U21s will next face Malta away on the 12th November, followed by Russia away on the 16th November. They then have no fixtures until March 2022 - when they will face Lithuania at home and Slovakia away, before playing against Northern Ireland away and Malta at home in June 2022.

Who are the best players for Spain Under 21s squad in 2021?

Based on the fact that goals win games, we can look at Spain U21s’ top scorers in recent months.

Goals have come from a wide range of players in 2021 - Javi Puado (23, RCD Espanyol) has scored 3 goals, Yeremi Pino (18, Villarreal CF) has also scored 3 goals, as has Sergio Gómez (21, RSC Anderlecht) scored 3 goals as well.

Dani Gómez (23, Levante UD) and Fer Niño (20, Villarreal CF / RCD Mallorca) have both scored twice each.

According to UEFA rules, several players who are 22 or even 23 years old can play in the Under-21 squads, depending on their birthday and whether they were still 21 or less when the current qualification process began.

Will any of the current Spain Under 21 football team's players make it into the senior national squad?

Yes, most likely at least 5 of the current Spain U21 squad could receive senior international call ups in the next year or two. They will have to compete with an already quite young squad, of course, but if they continue to play well and score lots of goals then 2 or 3 players could well become first-team regulars for Spain.
