Ronda Rousey Leaving WWE Could Benefit Both Sides

Rumors run rampant in professional wrestling year-round, yet they seem to ramp up around Royal Rumble-Wrestlemania season. The latest rumor surrounds current Raw Women’s Champion, Ronda Rousey, will be finished with the WWE after Wrestlemania.

If the rumors are true and Rousey is done with WWE after Wrestlemania, it would be the end of a short, though successful run with the company.

Critics could use her departure as fuel for their perception that Rousey is only in WWE for the money and fame.

Some fans are irked that she has received opportunities over their favorite wrestlers, as well as her past transphobic remarks. Like her or not, Rousey has been a breath of fresh air in WWE... In the last year, she has kept a positive attitude and shown a genuine love for performing in WWE.

Some have compared her schedule to current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar’s part-time status. Though if fans think about it, she’s been on Raw more than Lesnar and has performed at house shows and tours.

Her critics have shined a light on her promo skills not being up to part with the rest of the talent. Fans can’t expect someone in their first year of the wrestling business to be a master on the microphone, even with Paul Heyman—who many fans regard as a god of gab—helping her write promos.

Promo skills or not, all signs point to Rousey clashing with Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania 35, possibly in the main event. If Wrestlemania 35 is Rousey’s last match with the WWE, then it would be the cap to an already successful year.

One thing fans might miss out on is the Four Horsewomen versus Four Horsewomen confrontation. Unless WWE wants to speed up the match, it’s unlikely fans will see the two groups face off in the ring, which is fine by me.

We don’t need a 4HW feud, especially at this time where both Lynch and Charlotte Flair are heels and Bayley and Sasha Banks are being pushed as a top babyface tag team. It also takes away from the importance of Rousey vs. Lynch, which is a major angle on its own.

Shayna Baszler is on the verge of moving up to Raw or Smackdown Live while Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir are starting out on NXT. They do not need to be involved in a faction feud right now. Personally, I want to see them establish themselves on their own merit—and with Rousey away from WWE, they will have the opportunity to do so.

Rousey can always return in the future and reignite the Four Horsewomen feud, assuming all eight wrestlers are still with the company.

Rousey’s departure would allow other wrestlers to step up and fill the role of a top babyface on Raw.

As for the Rowdy one, there’s speculation on her post-WWE future, including more movies. Some fans wonder if she will return to the UFC, who would welcome her back with open arms.

Another potential avenue for Rousey could be voice acting. She voiced Sonya Blade for the upcoming Mortal Kombat game and she has done VO work for 7th Generation Games. Perhaps more games could in the works.

Rousey, who is a Dragon Ball Z fan, could also transition into anime. One role that comes to mind is Jolyne Cujoh, the protagonist of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure; Stone Ocean. It might be a while as David Production will need to produce Stone Ocean after Golden Wind.

Being a voice actor would allow Rousey to fulfill her family plans and work on other projects. In all honesty, Rousey is an adult and can do whatever she wants.

Although Rousey has only been in WWE for a year, she’s certainly made her mark in the company.
