Reviewing Becky Lynch and Lita's Epic Night on Raw

The duo, dubbed Team Bextreme, captured the Women's Tag Team Championship on Raw's main event

What a night! The latest edition of Raw ended with a huge main event pitting Damage CTRL's Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky against Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita, with the Women's Tag Team Championship up for grabs. This bout was the latest chapter in the rivalry between Becky Lynch and Bayley, which started all the way back at SummerSlam last July. So with all of this, how did a four-time Women's Champion and a Hall of Famer get involved in this main event? And how did a second Hall of Famer get involved? To properly tell this, we have to go back a few weeks.

Remember the Becky/Bayley cage match that we were denied on Raw is XXX? Well, we did get it on February 6 of this year. Becky had to goad Bayley into agreeing to the match, doing so by revealing that she had taken out both Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky, but despite the steel cage environment, Bayley's cohorts kept trying to get involved. That's when Lita came in.

Lita appeared and managed to take out both Dakota and Iyo, and her assistance allowed Becky to defeat Bayley inside the cage. The last time we saw Becky and Lita together, it was not under friendly circumstances. It was on the previous February that Lita served as a challenger and foe to the then-villainous Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch heading into that year's Elimination Chamber event, but as we saw, the respect between the two women remained, and Lita decided to help "The Man" out in her latest battle against Bayley. It would not be the last time we would see this legendary pair together.

After this year's Elimination Chamber event came and went, Becky and Lita crashed Bayley's latest edition of "Ding Dong, Hello!" and decided to challenge Dakota and Iyo for the tag titles, with Bayley actually accepting in her cohorts' favor. Which brings us to the latest Raw. We saw Becky and Lita enter, we later saw them speak on their unit and vow to capture the titles, and we heard from Damage CTRL, who questioned their foes partnership and said that they were the best tag team in WWE. So the match happens, and as usual, Bayley's all over the place, doing everything in her power to make sure her partners in crime retain their titles.

Enter Trish Stratus. The seven-time Women's Champion and WWE Hall of Famer entered the scene, because WWE still thinks Trish and Lita are joined at the hip. She took down Bayley at ringside, and embraced Lita before cheering on her bestie and Becky Lynch. The final moments came when Lita had Iyo set up for her legendary moonsault--Trish took down Bayley, and Becky held Dakota at bay with the Dis-Arm-Her, allowing Lita to deliver that beautiful moonsault and pick up the victory...as well as the tag titles.

A lot of history was made with this win. First off, the Hall of Famer. Lita became a tag team champion for the first time in her legendary career, and this is also her first championship win in 16 1/2 years. In addition, this is Lita's fifth championship run overall, and it's the second time that she's won a title on a Raw main event. As for Becky Lynch, she completes the Triple Crown with this win, having also held both Raw and SmackDown's Women's Championships as well. It is Becky's first tag title as well, and her seventh championship overall.

Trish's involvement was originally planned for a week prior, as she was supposed to make a surprise appearance during the talk show segment, but that got scrapped at literally the eleventh hour. I did not think Becky and Lita were going to win. I had a lot of thoughts entering my mind. I thought we'd see some craziness that would lead to either a DQ or a dirty win by the heels, and then Trish comes out. Another thought I had: "Lita's turning on Becky." For one, it's been documented that Bayley idolizes Lita, plus Lita could use her and Becky's contentious past to become a villainess against The Man. A lot of fans hoped Trish would turn on Lita somehow, but I've long given up on Trish being a heel ever again, though she has said she wanted to turn heel and face Becky at some point.

One thing we do know: all six women are supposed to clash at WrestleMania this year. The rumor mill states that we are on our way to getting Trish/Lita/Becky vs Damage CTRL at the big event, and Trish's appearance will get that build started. As for Becky and Lita's win, it's epic as hell. Did Trish need to be involved in it? No, but that's WWE for ya. In any regard, this was quite an epic moment, and definitely ranks among the best moments in WWE's women's division in recent years.
