Hashim Amla opts out of domestic cricket in South Africa

Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla will not return to play domestic cricket in South Africa, as confirmed by the Western Province on Tuesday, September 14. The veteran, who was originally named in the team’s 16-member squad in April, had earlier informed the Western Province Cricket Association of his call.

Hashim Amla will not take part in South Africa’s upcoming domestic season, where he was contracted to the Western Province. The 38-year-old has negotiated an exit deal with the team management.

"It's obviously hugely disappointing that Hashim will not be donning Western Province colours this season," Michael Canterbury, the Western Province CEO, said in a statement. "He would have been a huge asset to the team on and off the field, especially working with the group of talented young batsmen we have at our disposal.

"I want to thank Hashim and his representatives for the open interaction over these past couple of weeks. We all know Hashim is one of our greatest ever players in South Africa and we would have loved nothing more than to see him representing Western Province but we fully understand his reasoning and wish him luck with whatever comes next for him and his family."

Amla, 38, had retired from international cricket in 2019, but has continued to play first-class cricket since. In the ongoing County Championship 2021, the right-hander has aggregated 771 runs at 51.40 from 12 games with a highest of 215*. In a Group 2 game against Hampshire in July, Amla scored an unbeaten 37 off 278 balls, occupying the crease for 96.2 overs to help his side avoid a defeat.

Meanwhile, Western Province are also uncertain of Vernon Philander’s participation, after the former South Africa quick was named Pakistan’s bowling consultant for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman.

Hashim Amla has great IPL career. He have played many matches in IPL. Hope he is enjoying his retirement very well.

Pakistan to tour Bangladesh after T20 World Cup

Pakistan’s men’s cricket team will travel to Bangladesh after the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021, for three T20Is and two Tests, scheduled to be played between November 19 and December 8. This will be Pakistan’s first bilateral series in the country since May 2015.

Pakistan will tour Bangladesh for a bilateral series consisting of three T20Is and two Tests in November-December. During their last trip in May 2015, Pakistan clean-swept the ODI series 3-0, and took the two-match Test series 1-0. They’d also won the only T20 by seven wickets.

The series is scheduled to commence just five days after the T20 World Cup 2021 which is to be held in UAE and Oman, which might put a major question over the scheduling, especially if both teams make it to the knockout stages of the marquee tournament.

Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium hosted all international matches when Sri Lanka, Australia, and New Zealand toured the country recently. The venue will host the three T20Is featuring Pakistan too, between November 19 and 22, while the first of the two Tests will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The teams will return to Dhaka for the second Test.

Pakistan had hosted Bangladesh for a multi-format tour in early 2020, when the only ODI and the latter of two Tests were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The hosts took the three-match T20I series 2-0 and won the lone Test comfortably by an innings and 44 runs.
