Early Career

In this section going to tackle the early part of Paul Heyman's professional wrestling career, which is so much more than meets the eye when researching or first look.

Definitely more storied and under valued than it would at first appear, without realizing it you could easily lose yourself and write an entire book.

Assume it would have been obvious to anyone who chose to pay an adolescent Paul any mind while learning his ways, what road he wanted to travel as well as which side of the coin he would choose on the road.

He was studying heel management under the tutelage of the 'Three Wise Men' of those days, with Captain Lou Albano, Classie Fred Blassie, and The Grand Wizard teaching a young Heyman the ropes.

Would venture out on a limb to say that it was safe to think he wanted to be on the bad guy team, and soon enough he would get his chance to shine in front of a nationwide audience to boot.

Learning the ropes from the three wise men would make it easy to say things are exactly as they seem, plus help explain why every interview seems less a work and more of a shoot.

To say the least, 1985 turned out to be a very eventful and impactful year, at onty 19 he climbed from photographer to producer and finally promoter for the infamous Studio 54.

That promotion at the club directly led to the start of his illustrious pro wrestling career, he used his comnections with Jim Crockett to promote WrestleParty 85' on his marquee board.

Crockett sent him Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Magnum TA among others for the show, with another legend making his long awaited and much anticipated in ring debut.

The 6'4" 390 pound athletic freak known as the Beast from the East, Bam Bam Bigelow, the show was a major success making Paul think he could do this full time for a wrestling orginization to.

Eventually leading to his managerial debut on Jan 2nd of 87' appearing in NorthEast independent circuit, all from mainly Bigelow urging Paul to give it a fair shake with no pre-concieved notions.

In only a month he decided to move to Florida to work it, joining forces with Kevin Sullivan as well as Oliver Humperdink under the banner of Crockett Promotions.

Acquired the name Paul E Dangerously, which was truly just an extension of his real personality, with being a brash New Yorker with a yuppie attitude and carrying around a large mobile phone.

Mixing his real persona with the fantasy of Vince's pro wrestling world to create an alternate reality, often times finishing his guys matches smashing his phone to pieces on opponents domes.

Soon Bigelow brought him to Memphis and the Continental Wrestling Association, managing the up and coming team of Tommy Rich and Austin Idol.

In am extremely heated fued with the King, Jerry Lawler, a Memphis legend. In process making the King into what ended up being the perfect foil and long term rivals.

Their disdain for one another went across several different independent companies, while also having longevity in spades to span multiple decades.

From CWA to the AWA, onto the CWF up to the big boys at WWF, from coast to coast and overseas, no matter his name Paul would be front and center if business is to be done plus money to be made.

Always seeming to have studs at his disposal at every stop along the way, the list of who all he managed throughout his career is truly astounding.

From Bam Bam to the Midnight Express to breaking in a youngster going by Mean Mark Collous being molded like clay, to a blond long haired guy named Stunning Steve, the list will leave you dumbfounded.

Now Mean Mark would later become The Phenom from Death Valley, aka The Undertaker, while Stunning Steve would shave his head bald and transciend the sport as Stone Cold.

Didn't stop there with RVD and Sabu taking care of the high flying death defying risk takers, on thru to who has sights set on being called the GOAT, Roman Reigns, yes he is that bold.

Let's talk bout his tour in CWF based in Alabama with Eddie Gilbert as head booker and Heyman his assistant putting in work, he was also head booker for Windy City Wrestling making him decide he like to run his own company and try it.

From Chi' town he began to develop a reputation for being innovative, which can be an issue with purists who are always fighting change.

So his answer for that was simple, if want different style of wrestling why not create it? Make your own brand where things be exciting plus different all while remaining true to the game.
