When the Knicks win, how glorious will that be?

The New York Knicks are one win away from the championship. How did they get here? Like NBA All-Star Jalen Brunson simply said his team just “chipped away at the lead.” For his squad to excel into the history books by completing the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, the strategy seemed to be all defense.

Each chip away led to a few short runs over time. The Spurs came out swinging in the first quarter and the first half mostly. With the Knicks, they had to scrap and they finally cemented the lead with a great amount of gusto and panache.

OG Anunoby, the unsung hero became the key player of the night in a pressure cooker moment. When Brunson missed the three, he knew that he would have to rush in for a layup. OG announced, “No, I’ve got this.” His tip for the win might even erase in Knicks’ lore the failed finger roll of Patrick Ewing. Maybe.

But that is what’s going to be the draw of this game because “all’s well….” But those Brunson Burner runs generated plays from the defensive end to spark a chance to score. They came in dribs and drabs and turnovers took place. But they would’ve been mere conquerors, they played like more as the faithful say.

All of that occurred with the power and might of the minds behind the Knicks. By recognizing tactics and securing positions to perfect their gameplan Brunson and Co always keep going. Instead of losing steam, they stole the souls of the Spurs. They demoralized them in the second half.

When they came down the court in spectacular fashion, they showed bravado and finesse in all their ways. New York used the right way to make boss decisions and emphasize that this is a team sport.

Individualism still reigns with collectives as long as the athletes perform selfishly. The Brunson three pointer may have been intended as a dagger. The miss actually provided for the epic tip end. This whole scenario allowed for him to be the hero.

That’s the idea of the ego. People talk about not having egos on a team and know nothing of the nature of man. There’s always the best. For San Antonio, that’s Victor Wembanyama. Jalen Brunson is the greatest for New York. They can’t meld into each other or share thoughts even if the team shared brain matter. They work together to advance their own selfish goals. And the single goal right now is to clench a championship.

The comeback came with the Spurs missing shots and the Knicks took the game because of the abilities of all of those in blue and orange on the court. These games have been scrappy and almost ugly if it weren’t for the use of strategy and making it count through recognizing the “X’s” and “O’s” that took place in the locker room.

With the amount of fanatics that lost their minds at the Garden, they certainly felt the drive and determination of the home team.

While he had a bout with stomach poisoning, Michael Jordan is remembered for the famous “Flu Game.” He didn’t have the flu just symptoms, but he still put up thirty-eight points, seven assists, and five rebounds in the Finals. That’s when he hit a game-winning three pointer.

This was New York’s “Wu Game.” The Wu-Tang Clan performed during halftime and boosted the morale of the crowd which stayed in their seats until a New York basket tumbled through the hoop.

If there’s ever going to be the hallmark for a game it is the might of the mind on and off the court.
