England and Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson has been suspended from all international cricket pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation following historic tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013. Robinson will not be available for selection for the LV= Insurance second Test against New Zealand starting at Edgbaston on Thursday, June 10. He will now leave the England camp immediately and return to his county.

The fast bowler said that he was "embarrassed" and "ashamed" as he apologised "unreservedly" for the posts, made in 2012 and 2013, which were unearthed on Wednesday as he made his Test debut at Lord's.

Robinson, now 27, was the pick of England's bowlers against New Zealand as he took seven wickets in the drawn first match of the two-Test series, while he also scored 42 runs at Lord's.

Prior to the opening day's play of the first Test of the English summer England and New Zealand shared a 'Moment of Unity', with the hosts wearing T-shirts designed as a stand against discrimination of all kinds.

An ECB statement said: “England and Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson has been suspended from all international cricket pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation following historic tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013.

“He will not be available for selection for the LV= Insurance second Test against New Zealand starting at Edgbaston on Thursday 10 June.

“Robinson will leave the England camp immediately and return to his county.”

Tweets of a racist and sexist nature from Robinson’s account, posted around a decade ago, surfaced this week as he made his Test debut for England against New Zealand at Lord’s.

"He will not be available for selection for the second Test against New Zealand starting at Edgbaston on Thursday 10 June. Robinson will leave the England camp immediately and return to his county."

Robinson, now 27, issued an unreserved apology for posts in 2012 and 2013, when he was in his late teens, which were unearthed and shared online on the day he made his Test debut against the Black Caps earlier this week.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board has opened an investigation into the matter and the bowler is expected to be hit with a hefty fine or a lengthy ban from the game as a result of the shameful posts.
