NFL 2026 Draft Review: Miami Dolphins
Time to rebuild
The Miami Dolphins are in full rebuild with Jeff Hatley being named the new head coach and signing QB Malik Willis to run the show for the next three seasons.
The Dolphins are in a full rebuild after a 7-10 season. Former starting QB Tua Tagovailoa is now with the Atlanta Falcons. Former starting WR Jaylen Waddle was traded to the Denver Broncos. Former starting WR Tyreek Hill tore his ACL last season and has not been signed by anyone as of yet. Former starting OLB Bradley Chubb signed with the Buffalo Bills.
Fortunately for this rebuild, Miami had 13 picks in this year's NFL Draft. Here is a look at who the Dolphins selected on Draft Day.
Round 1, Pick 12: Kadyn Proctor - T - Alabama. 6'6", 352 lbs.
Proctor started for all three of seasons at offensive tackle for the Crimson Tide. He will start right away at left tackle for the Dolphins. He was also used as a running back in short-yardage situations at Alabama last year because he is a large man.
Round 1, Pick 27: Chris Johnson - CB - San Diego State. 6'0", 193 lbs (49 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 INT, 2 INT ret TD, 9 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble).
Johnson will start at cornerback right away because the Dolphins only had 9 interceptions last season.
Round 2, Pick 11: Jacob Rodriguez - LB - Texas Tech. 6'1", 231 lbs (128 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 INT, 6 pass deflections, 7 forced fumbles, 2 fumble returns, 1 fumble return TD, 2 rush TD on offense).
Rodriguez should see some playing time as a backup inside linebacker for Miami. He was also a former QB in college which allows for him to anticipate where the ball is going on passing plays. He is able to make game-changing plays on defense with 4 interceptions and 7 forced fumbles last season.
Round 3, Pick 11: Caleb Douglas - WR - Texas Tech. 6'3", 206 lbs (54 rec, 846 yds, 15.7 yds/rec, 7 TD).
Douglas could see some time right away in the red zone due to his height. He also works well as a possession receiver.
Round 3, Pick 23: Will Kacmarek - TE - Ohio State. 6'5", 261 lbs (168 rec yds, 2 TD).
Kacmarek will see plenty of time on run plays due to his excellent blocking at TE.
Round 3, Pick 30: Chris Bell - WR - Louisville. 6'1", 222 lbs (72 rec, 917 yds, 12.7 yds/rec, 6 TD).
Bell's availability will be unknown for this season after suffering a torn ACL last season. However, he could see some time if he is medically cleared towards the end of this season.
Round 4, Pick 30: Trey Moore - LB - Texas. 6'2", 243 lbs (35 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 3 pass deflections, 1 fumble).
Moore will add pass-rushing depth at outside linebacker.
Round 4, Pick 38: Kyle Louis - LB - Pitt. 6'0", 220 lbs (81 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 2 INT, 3 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries).
Louis is undersized at outside linebacker, but he will be helping on passing downs as well.
Round 5, Pick 18: Michael Taaffe - S - Texas. 5'11", 190 lbs (70 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 2 INT, 1 pass deflection).
Taaffe will add depth at free safety and on special teams.
Round 5, Pick 37: Kevin Coleman, Jr. - WR - Missouri. 5'10", 179 lbs (66 rec, 732 yds, 11.1 yds/rec, 1 TD, 76 rush yds, 189 punt ret yds, 1 punt ret TD).
Coleman, Jr. should see some time at slot receiver, but he should be able to make more of an impact as a punt returner for the Dolphins.
Round 5, Pick 40: Seydou Traore - TE - Mississippi State. - 6'4", 235 lbs. (35 rec, 369 yds, 10.5 yds/rec, 5 TD).
Traore should see some time on passing downs at TE.
Round 6, Pick 19: DJ Campbell - G - Texas. 6'3", 313 lbs.
Campbell will add depth to the interior of Miami's offensive line.
Round 7, Pick 22: Max Llewellyn - DE - Iowa. 6'6", 258 lbs (26 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 6 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles).
Llewellyn will be fighting for time at defensive end because he will need to add to around 20-30 pounds to play at end in a 3-4 defense in the NFL.
Overview: This draft will work for Miami because the new coaches will clearly be able to see who they will able to keep with 13 new picks. Grade: C+.
